iTunes cannot connect to update server. Need Help

So I am finally going to update my Touch to 3.0 (from 2.2.1). I connected it to my PC and opened iTunes. However, when I click "Update" it says it can't connect to the update server because I have no internet connection. But as you can see, I do.

I vaguely remember this happening once before, and it had something to do with a setting in Internet Explorer. I have done a couple of Google searches, but I cannot find where it says to change the setting. Does anyone know what I'm talking about?

Do you have a web proxy enabled (try disabling it if you do)? That is one cause of your problem that I have seen.

I don't believe I do... This system was given to me by a friend and is running Vista (which I haven't had too much experience with).

This is really getting annoying.... I can connect to the iTunes Store just fine. I just tested it by downloading and installing a free app... but when I try to update to v3.0 it tells me I have no internet connection........

Are you connecting using your home broadband? I have problems with some apps when I connect through the work VPN.

Ya, I'm on Comcast... but it's almost like it's not even trying. As soon as I click the Update button, I get the error message.

If you suspect the problem is with some IE settings, try another browser.

And if that doesn't work, then try using another computer.

Don't know what else to suggest.

Re: iTunes cannot connect to update server. Need Help

Well, I'm not actually going thru my browser to connect. But, like I said, I seem to remember this happening before on an old computer, and the fix for it was to change a setting in IE (Or Internet Options in the Control Panel).

I could try another computer, but I would then have to re-sync my touch with this computer, which I don't know if it would recognize it with an updated OS on it.

Re: iTunes cannot connect to update server. Need Help

Ok, I am not too sure how I fixed it, but I am currently downloading the 3.0 software. The ONLY change I made was on my Touch's Sync window, I went to the Applications tab and checked "Sync Applications" (because I wasn't able to sync apps from itunes to my touch). So after I synced the apps I kept looking around the net for a place to download it outside of iTunes. I followed a link on Apple's site, and, as usual, it opened iTunes... but this time IT WORKED!

Re: iTunes cannot connect to update server. Need Help

Congrats. I thought you could update software using a new computer without synching to it. But I guess it's not the computer anyway.
