What's your current uptime?

I don't maintain anything fancy, so mine is laughably short:

6wks 3days 22hrs 19mins 4secs

(This is running XP). Anyone else?

Re: What's your current uptime?

Also XP, but I reboot every week because of all the VPNing to various corporate networks and application servers I run for development and unit test with connections to all sorts of databases and other systems that I just find if I let it go too long, there's way to much uncollected garbage that bogs the set down too much.

But I leave it up for almost exactly 7 days straight each week.

Re: What's your current uptime?

I use 'hibernate' to turn off XP every night, so its uptime is kind of long: almost 20 days.

Re: What's your current uptime?

Statistics since 6/1/2009 9:35 AM

This is just my own machine, the servers will be shorter since we regularly reboot them to maintain stability

Now back in the Netware 3.11 days, I had servers in the 1000's of days of uptime. I can't remember the longest, but it was roughly 3.5-4 years and only got shut down because it was replaced

We've mentioned that before, and same here. Usually the only reason why I'd have to shut down a Netware server was due to a power outage or replacing a UPS. Never because of "let's reboot and see if that fixes it".

Re: What's your current uptime?

Just counting traditional server hardware (not routers etc):
BSD based firewall has been up for 32 days, was rebooted for an OS update. Before that was around 8 months or so.

My solaris box is currently: Uptime is OK - Timeticks: (681787835) 78 days, 21:51:18.35

Asterisk PBX: System uptime: 29 weeks, 2 days, 19 minutes, 8 seconds

All the windows stuff gets rebooted at longest monthly with the patch cycle.

I usually keep my machine running, but that WD Caviar black harddrive I got (I think you have, at least, one as well) is so damn loud that I have to turn it off so I can sleep. I guess this is typical of WD. Still, I'd have considered one of the green ones if it is quieter. Maybe I got a screw loose

Re: What's your current uptime?

Usually a few hours only for my bedroom PC. Hibernation does not work in my Dell. As for my laptop, normally in the 1-2 weeks timeframe using hibernation. As for my download PC, whatever it takes to finish my downloads.

Re: What's your current uptime?

The longest uptime I've ever seen was on Solaris.

Re: What's your current uptime?

Xp and vista is weeks to months

longest I've seen was solaris which was years, but it used to be so expensive that people went to windows for a lot of things.

We also have nt servers that stayed up over a year. Average time for win2003 is months and that's only because of updates or crap like netbackup causing problems

Re: What's your current uptime?

About 40 minutes. In order to get Windows XP/itunes to recognize either my ipod or my iphone, I have to bring up itunes very soon after a reboot. Since my battery was nigh dead and I wanted to sync, I had to reboot. I have no idea why that is.

How do you keep your XPs and Vista machines up that long? Don't have Windows Update enabled?

Longest uptimes I've seen were when I was a VMS system admin... unfortunately I deal with windows servers now, and we reboot our web servers weekly, and everything gets a reboot generally during monthly patching.

This.

Also, I tend to turn my desktop off more in the summer when the window A/C is going to be off for a long time because I don't want the thing to overheat. I had a CPU get fried one summer.

Re: What's your current uptime?

I used to leave it on for weeks, but these days I shut off the desktop whenever it's not needed since I'm not on it nearly as much as I used to be.
