Re: need recommendations on external USB HD
That looks like a pretty nice enclosure, but the negative comments on the feeble power supply would worry me. Especially when tech support admits it.

Re: need recommendations on external USB HD
OK I'm looking for an 2 different kinds of external HHD's both to work with Vista & XP easily... and I will be using USB..
I want one for myself that does NOT use auto back-up. I want to drag and drop via windows explorer. And it need to be seen on other PC's. size wise 350g to 500g unless more for the same amount. I need another one for a buddy that keeps F'n up his system. his is XP and I want to set up a back-up that is NOT AUTO but he will click an Icon and off it goes.. size wise 250g - 350g just enough to store the last 2-3 back-ups. He's not a major saver like me. thankz

Re: need recommendations on external USB HD
Based on that (same as your other post...) I'd just pick up a basic WD or Segate drive for ~$80.

Re: need recommendations on external USB HD
Well I ended up getting a WD 750GB Green Drive off of Newegg over the weekend (good sale deal!) and the MacAlly enclosure from Amazon. They both showed up yesterday and I had a chance to hook them up and get things started. So far so good. I'll see if any of the issue come up with the 2A supply with MacAlly, but since it's a Green drive I'm hoping power draw won't be an issue.
Similarly I hooked up my old IDE drive with the USB--IDE/SATA tool I bought so I could extract files off of it. It's an old 100GB WD (I think 7200) and man is that thing loud! Puts off a lot of heat too.

Re: need recommendations on external USB HD
Looks like I'm going with WDH1U10000N
Western Digital - My Book Essential 1TB External Hard Drive USB best buy & amazon have it for $109. I will probably get it at best buy and pay the extra $9 sales tax just so I can take it back if it doesn't work like I want. (this is main reason BB gets my $$..) The reviews I've ready sound like it is drag & drop like I want but I don't know...
