Linksys WRT54GS with FTTH
Hello,
I just had FTTH (Fiber to the Home) (Optical Fiber) installed. They gave me a router with nothing but a bunch of LAN Ports on it. It works just fine (and FAST) for the internet and I am happy. The Problem: I have a Linksys WRT54GS Wireless which I use only for my iPhone. I plugged the Linksys wire into one of the LAN Ports on the FTTH Router and tried it and nothing happens - my iPhone can't get data from it and no lights blink on the FTTH Router when the iPhone is trying to get data. Of course I don't have access to the Linksys Setup Page when it is plugged in to the FTTH router, but I can still access it by unplugging my Computer's LAN Cable from the FTTH router and plugging it in to the Linksys WRT54GS. I tried experimenting with a bunch of different settings, but I can't seem to get it to work. Any ideas? Oh, the FTTH Router's menus are all in Japanese, so it's very difficult for me to do anything with them. Thanks in advance! |

Re: Linksys WRT54GS with FTTH
Plug a network cable from one of the LAN ports on the back of the FTTH into the WAN or Internet port on the back of your Linksys. Plug your PC into the LAN port on the Linksys. The Linksys will grab an IP from the FTTH and then broadcast its own IP's to your devices (iPhone and PC, etc - assuming it's set as a DHCP server). You should also now be able to log into the router to set security for admin access and for wireless security.

Re: Linksys WRT54GS with FTTH
VinVega: Sorry, that doesn't work. I tried it and tried it and tried it over a period of about 3 hours with no luck. One question which I was unsure of - under the Advanced Routing tab should I have it set as "Router" or "Gateway". And, the FTTH Connection is a PPPOE connection, so should the setting be DHCP or PPPOE?

Re: Linksys WRT54GS with FTTH
Somebody - please give me some ideas, this is driving me crazy. The only way I can get this thing to give me a wireless signal to my iPhone is to have a wire from one of the FTTH Router LAN Ports plugged in to one of the LAN ports on the Linksys ---- BUT then the computer doesn't know which router to talk to - the FTTH or the Linksys and my internet connection is intermittent. So, sometimes when I type 192.168.1.1 into a browser the setup screen for the Linksys pops up and sometimes the setup screen for the FTTH Router pops up!! I just want the Linksys to accept internet from the FTTH LAN Port and rebroadcast it securely to my iPhone - I don't want it to try and handshake with the internet or anything else. Is there not a way to do this??
So, the way I now have to do things is that I have the Linksys unplugged when the computer is on and I only attempt to use the wireless for the iPhone when the computer is turned off. Thanks very much! |

Re: Linksys WRT54GS with FTTH
Problem Seems to be solved:
I followed the instructions which I found at: http://routersetup.blogspot.com/2007...ers-wired.html and considered the Linksys WRT54GS as the 2nd router, thereby changing the default IP address of it and disabling the DHCP functions of it. I'll try to remember to post again in a couple of days to tell you if it's still solved! |
