Re: Firefox 3.5 is out!

I've got a laptop which I pretty much only use for web browsing. I was using FF3.0 and with an hour of normal use, it's memory usage would be ~500-600MB. Considering I only have a 1GB or RAM it was incredibly slow and would hang for a few minutes every now and then. Shutting down FF would take 5+ minutes minimum and I'd have to do it every few hours before things got too slow.

I was a little worried about 3.5 considering Dr. Mabuse saying 3.5 used 1GB of memory. I installed it and it couldn't be faster. Memory usage is in the 250-350MB range consistently, even when running for hours. It starts up slowly, but then 3.0 did for me as well, and 3.5 shuts down in seconds. It's also incredibly response, far better than IE on that laptop. I have no complaints at all. Best browser upgrade ever IMO.

I usually have ~70 tabs open in my browser doing all sorts of things, which is why I disclaimed my statement. My FF was using 1.2 gigs of memory a couple of days ago.

I love 3.5, just like you do. I only had the bookmark hiccup, which was easily resolved with a restore.

I've read other similar reports. I suppose it's probably a good idea to post this then:

Before upgrading to FF3.5, make a backup of your bookmarks!
  • Click Bookmarks > Organize Bookmarks (or press Ctrl+Shift+B)
  • Click Import and Backup > Backup...
  • Tell FF to place the backup file on your Desktop (for easy retrieval later)
  • Click Save

The default backup filename is "Bookmarks yyyy-mm-dd.json" (replace yyyy-mm-dd with today's date). The "place it on your Desktop" is a personal preference - if you've got a better preferred place, by all means go for it.

All I can say is 3.5 has made my internet move to a crawl. I switched back to version 3 and everything is fine.

Firefox 3.5.1 is out. Release notes:
http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/firefox.../releasenotes/

One of the items that this fixed:
"An issue that was making Firefox take a long time to load on some Windows systems."

Re: Firefox 3.5 is out!

And now, there's a 3.5.2 update:
http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/firefox.../releasenotes/

I had issues with performance with 3.5, but with everything's been smooth with 3.5.1 and 3.5.2.

Re: Firefox 3.5 is out!

I downloaded this earlier to put on my flash drive for when ever I do reinstallations of my OS. I got a trojan warning. I use Avira free. I updated the definitions and rescanned it. Now I get a suspious file warning.
