Apple releases Safari 4 - Public Beta (with over 150 cool features!)
Check it out! http://www.apple.com/safari/
Lots of neat new features like Cover Flow bookmarks and history, a "Top Sites" page that's similar to Chrome's but a lot fancier, and the first and only browser to pass the Acid 3 test.

FYI, it's not 150 new features. The site just says 150 features of Safari 4 (which includes previous features).

Looks like they took another cue from Chrome. You can click and drag tabs out and create another window, and then drag them back into the original window.

Yup. I kind of like the tabs on top. It's hard to get used to dragging the right corner of the tab rather than anywhere, though.
And I wish Glims worked with the new version, already. Also, for whatever reason, GrowlMail causes Mail to crash after the upgrade. You have to disable GrowlMail through the Mail preferences pane. |

While reading the Ars initial impressions (http://arstechnica.com/apple/news/20...h-ui-edges.ars) I found this nice little nugget: Apple has FINALLY joined the rest of the world and added CTRL+TAB tab switching. No more CMD+arrow[]whatever BS.

All right! They took a resource intensive feature from iTunes and added it to a program where it makes no sense to have it!

Coverflow for history is pretty useful, I think. That combined with the history search makes finding some random page you looked at last week much easier! Now for bookmarks, it seems kind of pointless. If you bookmarked a website, I would think you know what it looks like.

Hmmm, this might be worth it.
Safari did need some work. The Tab thing mentioned above is a fix I wanted. I also wanted them to fix the "private browsing" bug, where if you quit it is no longer enabled. Also a clear private data function like Firefox would be nice... Getting closer.

They really should just rename the "Private Browsing" feature to what it's really meant for...

Did they change the search bar so you can search something other than Google or Yahoo? I like to have the option to manage search engines from the search bar, so I can search Wikipedia, IMDB, and so on without employing a bunch of redundant toolbars/widgets/whatevers. Both Firefox and IE offer this, but Safari didn't (at least not where I could find it).

I love Safari (my favorite browser) but I've been having to use Firefox because it's crashing on my Mini and I haven't taken the time to fix it. Hopefully this will get it up and running again.

No but there is a great add-on that does just that, called Glims. Unfortunately, the search functionality isn't working with Safari 4, yet. They should have a working version out, tomorrow.

Glims build 14 is out over at http://www.machangout.com/ and is fully-compatible with Safari 4.
