Outlook Express Freezing Upon Opening

About a week ago, my Outlook Express began freezing just after I open it. It loads just fine, but before I can even click on anything, it freezes. If I continue to click, I get the (Not Responding) at the top of the screen. I've done some Google searches and all I can find is to repair Internet Explorer... however, Internet Explorer seems to be working just fine. Is there anything I can do to get OE working again?

One thought I have is that the freezing has something to do with the last e-mail I got. I have my OE set to "Go to Inbox on open". Is there some way to reset this option without going into the actual program? That way I can see if it's the e-mail, or the program itself.

Re: Outlook Express Freezing Upon Opening

Both OE and IE are integrated into Windows, and OE actually uses the IE rendering engine to display any HTML within emails. So running certain IE repairs certainly could fix a problem in OE.

Your OE settings are stored in Windows Registry. If you know how to use regedit, you can alter the setting there. If you don't know how to use regedit, you could severely damage your Windows Registry, and thus, render Windows unusable. Here's a guide to finding the OE registry settings:

Looking at my registry, I'm guessing you'll want to change the "Launch Inbox" setting for OE to 0.

Re: Outlook Express Freezing Upon Opening

Thanks, that did it . I am now able to browse all of my folders and get into everything else. However, when I click on my Inbox, everything freezes again. So I'm assuming that it has something to do with the last e-mail I got. I'm trying to figure out how to not show the message and just the message list, so I can delete it.

WOOT! That did it. I changed the layout to not display the actual message, then went to my inbox and deleted the problematic message. Now everything works again... Thanks for the help.
