winXP Hyper terminal

Allright have an issue with Hyper terminal at work. I am using a US Robotics 33.6 and 56k modems to connect to one of our terminal servers. I have to go into the settings and change databits to 7 parity Even and stop bits 1. Connect using the session I setup with hyperterm and it reverts everything back to defaults. Get all screwed up characters on the screen. Now the funny thing. If I create a new session with all my settings I connect fine for awhile and then eventually it goes back to using default settings, so I have to create a new session.

I am running winxp with sp 3
Hyperterm 5.1

Has anyone encountered an issue like this before? And know of some kind of fix, or can recommend a free ware hyper terminal program?

I switched to Putty as soon as it supported serial connection:

If you still prefer HyperTerminal, you should upgrade to HyperTerminal PE:

PS: just found out that now you have to pay for it, it used to be Free, here you can download the last free version: 6.3

Thank you! Going to go try this in a few minutes see if this fixes the issue. Yeah I checked the companies website and noticed they were charging for it now.
