Like any VNC it allows you to control your computer, but this is through your iPhone/iPod. You see your computer desktop on your iPhone through wi-fi. You can pull up files, check email, run programs, etc. just like you were sitting at your computer - all controlled through your iPhone.

I get calls from my wife while I'm at work like, "how do I ... on the computer." With VNC Mocha I can log on to my home computer and do what she needs without getting frustrated over the phone.

This isn't perfect, but you can also download the free apps AppMiner or PandoraBox which spotlight new, popular or pricedrop (including to free) titles.

Re: "must have" apps for the iphone?

I really wanted the Slingbox app. But since I don't have a Slingbox thus would have to buy one, I'm not as excited since it won't work over 3G/Edge. Very, very disappointing.

If you use Gmail and have been waiting for push: GPush should be available in the app store around 9:00EST this morning.

No sign of Gpush yet.

I bought LogMeIn last week and love it. Simple install on the phone and computers you want to connect to and everything works great. I can now use my work PC and my Mac at home from the iphone. You can even view Flash files/video (the downside being there is no audio since presumably it plays through the PC speakers). Could be a fun way to freak the wife out one day.

The only downside is the price. It's a hefty $30.

It's only $0.99. I'll suffer through defect updates at that price just to finally have this functionality.

Out of the most recent 10 reviews only one is more than 1 star. Ouch. There are quite a few 5*s once you expand to 20.

Re: "must have" apps for the iphone?

i found a free NYC subway map in the app store, but i was shocked a few years ago when i noticed that trains do run on a schedule

For Tom Tom, the cradle will also allow you to install the app on the iPod Touch. it's supposed to have GPS built into the cradle.

Hence the title "The Taking of Pelham 123"

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Tak...ee_%28novel%29
When a New York City subway train leaves to start a run, it is given a call sign based upon the time it left and where; in this case, Pelham Bay Park Station at 1:23 p.m. ... in a kind of superstition, the dispatchers have [since] generally avoided scheduling a Pelham train at 1:23.

I could get into that. I was expecting a $100ish for the package.

I travel a lot and carry a separate GPS and mount. So not having to carry that would be so worth while (my work provided the GPS so I'm not double buying). The mount that came with the GPS took up a ton of space. So I bought a small generic Wally World one. I'm hoping the TomTom one for iPhone will be much more compact for travel. It looks like it is.

Re: "must have" apps for the iphone?

I downloaded the laser scan one (Red Laser). The one that reads bar codes and tells you of other prices on the net (looks like mainly Amazon). I have yet to get to work.

Also got "Always Cruising". Have a cruise coming up and thought it would be fun. If free, it is sort of lame. If $2.00 which I'm pretty sure I paid, I think it is a rip off. It is only a count down time. Blah

By far the best app I d/l in the last few months (probably this year) is the C25K app for running. Trying to follow this beginners running program manually was a pain. You always had to stare at the treadmill or watch. This makes is soooo easy and motivating. The program takes you from couch to 5k (3.1 miles) in 9 weeks and you can still listen to music while your running the program.

One would think that barcode scanning would work infinitely better on an iPhone 3GS due to the camera's macro mode. Has anyone tried? What apps are available now?

Re: "must have" apps for the iphone?

Anyone interested in iPhone games should check out Spider: The Secret of Bryce Manor. It's probably the best, most polished game on the app store right now.

You play as a spider and must build webs to capture and eat insects in this abandoned house. It's 2d, and the art style and music are beautiful. The gameplay is very fluid and enjoyable. Tap the spider and flick to build webs. All the levels posess story elements like paintings and props that help you piece together the history of the family that used to live there. It's a great, passive way to tell a story.

Only $3. Check it out!

Re: "must have" apps for the iphone?

I've been thinking about getting Spider but I've been insanely addicted to Wolfenstein RPG. Great game for anyone who's a fan of the series. Hopefully Spider will be on sale for .99 by the time I'm ready to buy.
