Symbol RS 409 Bar Code Scanner

I inherited a bar code scanner from work a while back. From what i can figure, it's a Symbol RS409. I'd like to use it on my PC, preferrably with USB. It's got a weird connector, though. I don't have any idea what kind it is, but it's designed to hook into a retail PDA/PDT scanner. The connector is small, with 8 pins. Can someone tell me what kind of connector it is? Also tell me how to rewire it to USB or if there is a USB adapter available for it.

I'm looking to use the scanner with DVD Profiler 3.0. Is this possible?

Is the connector round or "D" shaped?

it's actually flat, or near flat. 8 pins flat metal connectors on top, 8 on bottom. Looks less like a serial or hdmi plug. More like an iPod or Dell Axim connection.
