How to hook up two hard drives (SATA/IDE)
So, I got a new computer today with a SATA hard drive. How can I use my old IDE hard drive as a secondary drive with this system? I don't have any experience with SATA so I really have no idea.

The SATA drive should be the master in the system by default. You shouldn't need to do any configuring, since the IDE and SATA controllers are two separate pieces of hardware.

Yeah, that should be fine. I just suggested the Promise since it's a known brand and is plug-and-play foremost. A while ago I bought a no-namer that needed drivers off a floppy, which I subsequently lost. I couldn't get a damn manufacturer or model # off the card itself, so I had to chuck it when I did a reinstall.

I need a larger hard drive, but I'm unfamiliar with SATA. I currently have the standard IDE set up - 2 hard drives on one, 2 DVD drives on the other. Can I just add an additional hard drive on my motherboard's existing SATA interface without impacting everything else? I have a MSI K8N Neo Platinum Socket 754 motherboard.

You should be able to. However you may need to play around with the boot order in the BIOS.

according to my A+ study guide they make bridges that plug into the IDE connector on the hard drive and teh SATA cable hooks from the mobo into that bridge
