Hard drive spinning/Music hanging problem
I just bought a dell demiension about 3 months ago. I have windows XP. Just recently when I listen to music, I have noticed a lag in the music. After playing with numerous things trying to figure the problem out, I noticed that when my hard drive light is on (spinning) is when i hear the lag in music. I also noticed that sometimes my mouse will hang as well. There are no vuruses, I defrag almost twice a week. It is a 40 gig hard drive and so far have only used 5 gigs. So i know that it is not running slow. Does any one have any clue as to why this is happening or how to fix it. Oh, I use winamp for my music player, but I also tried it in Windows Media and it does the same thing. Any help would be great.

Check your cmos settings
Make sure your Hard Drive settings are set on "auto", this will enable DMA in Windows. That was my problem, stuttering when moving large files, playing music, or video files. check this link http://www.dvdtalk.com/forum/showthread.php?t=438152 |
