Problem with Microsoft Word

I was working on a document and I minimized it to work in a different application. While I was working in the other application I got a pop-up that said Word no longer responding. Okay no biggie, I just ended the process as you normally would. Problem is now Word wont open and I think it's because it is trying to recover the doc I was writing. I just can't figure out how to get around it. Word will open, try to recover the doc and just hang forcing me to close it down using the Task Manager. I have completely un-installed Office and deleted every directory I could find (even hidden ones) that related to Office and Word. I deleted every entry I could find for Word in the registry. I reloaded Office and Word still tries to recover that doc. I plugged the error dump into MS knowledgebase but got no hits. I am really at a loss here...any suggestions?

Delete your normal.dot, which I'll bet got messed up in your crash (and didn't go away on your uninstall/reinstall).

How about *.dot?

Of course, be careful deleting anything you find.

Try these steps

My guess is that your manual scan missed something

The normal.dot was a good guess, but if you uninstalled office and deleted all the directories, you already got that one.

If this still does not work. Uninstall office again, delete the office directory again, and run a registry cleaner (like Registry healer http://www.fixregistry.com/regheal/index.htm or even the MS registry cleaner)

Thanks for the responses. Well yesterday I started Word up and it just started working. I hate when theat happens! I was able to clear out the recovery stuff and it seems to be stable now....not sure what happened.
