Recommend Some Computer Speakers?
I don't need anything of home theater quality, but I need to get new speakers for my machine, and I'm not really sure where to start. Right now I'm running the audio through a one-piece 5 disc CD-changer I got in the early 90s, and it works just fine. I only use it for listening to a lot of mp3s while working, and I like it loud, so I need decent sound but nothing special. The problem is that the speakers are old and aren't shielded. They're also a bit large. That combination makes it difficult to position them in a way that suits my listening desires. I want the sound to come from the front (can't really do because of the shielding) or the side (can't really do because of the room setup).
Anyway, that's what I'm dealing with. I want good sound, but I don't need anything fancy. I don't want full-sized speakers, but I don't require anything super tiny. As long as they're shielded and small enough to fit on opposite sides of my monitor, that's fine. I know those requirements open it up to a wide array of choices, but I'd appreciate any recommendations from anyone who has had a positive experience with a particular product. Thanks! das

Depends on your budget... i assume you're looking for just a 2.1 speaker set. I like the Monsoon PM 14's, which are flat panel speakers. They sound great, but they're quite expensive.

I don't have a set budget, but I don't need anything fancy. I just need something that doesn't sound like cheap crap. And stereo would be fine. I don't really need a sub, but I'm not opposed to it either ... space is a minor concern on that.
Looking at the PM 14's, I see they're about $100 - $125? Is that really expensive? $100 for a speaker upgrade sounds pretty reasonable to me, but I don't know jack about this stuff (which is why I came here ).das

If you're looking for a 2.1 speaker set, look no further than Altec Lansing ATP3. It is only $57 at places like buy.com (free shipping too), and it has many excellent reviews at various web sites. The speakers look very cool too. It is in black. If you want a white one, I think newegg.com has white version.
