How do you test your Quake 3 FPS?

I just got a new rig, and dont know how to test the FPS in Quake 3. Can someone please explain it to me. Thanks.

I don't game but I know that many people do FutureMark's 3dmark benchmarking program.

FutureMark 3dmark benchmarking ...

download the program right for you and run away.

or, if you want to do a timedemo run.. in the console type "timedemo 1".. then select a demo, and let it run through, it will give you the max FPS possible.

You cant beat FRAPS. Its always better to benchmark using actual games rather than a synthetic benchmark. Especially since the whole nVidia "cheating" fiasco.

Thanks, this is what I think I am looking for. I knew how to do it for Q2, but not three. I am going to try this on my new P4 2.8G w/ HT and 800MHg Bus, 512MB Corsair, and ****** Ti4200 128 XFX card when I get home tonight

ok, i cant get the console max FPS to work. What EXACTLY do I type, and when do I type it? Line by line please, I am a moron, I know this. Please help!!

when quake3 starts, press ` to go into the console..

type: timedemo 1

press ESC, then go to Demos on the menu, and select a demo.

The demo will run through really fast, and it will end. Press ` again to go to the console, you'll see the FPS on the last line.

when I typed timedemo 1 last time, it gave me somethign like timedemo 1 cannot be used with a cheat or something along those lines, but i think I did it during a single player game, I will try what you said when I get home.

When typing those commands, make sure you're in the main menu.
