I use media player 6.4

Be sure to you have the right codec for the avi file or it won't play correctly. There's divx 3.11, divx 4, divx 5.03, xvid, and some other older coders.

finshee, AVI files can use a wide variety of codecs, and unfortunately none of the established media players supplies all of them. AVI isn't just one kind of file... Do a google search for Nimo codec pack or one of the other common codec packages... That should take care of most of it; even then you can still get caught by some real obscure old codec...

There's also a tiny freebie program that'll tell you what kind of codec a media file needs -- but I'm at work and forgot the name...

I think youre referring to GSPOT It will tell you what specific codec is required to play the file and let you know if the codec is installed on your computer.

Not sure what codecs Nimo has included these days, but these are the ones I use. I have about 1400 divx/avi movies and 99% have played fine with them.

divx, xvid, ogg, ac3 and ffdshow

I also use zoom player, great program

If you use Nimo dont install the G400 filters, they screw things up, or at least the did for me and a few other people I know

Good luck
