Unless I missed it, pretty shocked not to see this listed:
http://www.proxomitron.org/ - highly configurable personal proxy - it's not particularly easy to use, but if you know what you're doing, it can do wonders. I don't know why anyone surfs the web without one. http://www.mlin.net/ - a few nifty tools. The one I use the most is the Startup Control Panel. It's little more than a GUI around your RunServices, RunOnce, etc. keys in your registry, but it saves time (and keeps novices out of the registry). SMP Seesaw is also handy for isolating processes to a single processor, and TraySaver and Clipomatic are also pretty cool. Mike Lin writes very clean and efficient code. No fancy silliness or wasted space/memory/time - quick tools that do the job well. Been using his stuff for years. das

This is from the NASA website. It's a Planetary Photojournal. The TIFF is nearly 210 mbs, however, you get an AMAZING topographical map. Perhaps one of the best I've ever seen with how focused you can zoom the image.

Startup Control Panel is a great Msconfig like utility for Win 2000/XP (and 9x too!) I love it and Mike Lin (the creator) also has lots of other cool programs on his site. Most are free... but he takes donations.

I didn't see this one yet but I just came across it. I use it to make puzzles of my newphew's photos and he loves playing with it...
Jigsaw Puzzle Promo Creator: http://www.tibosoftware.com/jppcreator.htm "Jigs@w Puzzle Promo Creator is a wizard, which will assist in fast and easy creation of your own promotional jigsaw puzzle games, the so-called Jigs@w Puzzle Promos. Jigs@w Puzzle Promo is a small executable file, after running it a playing field is displayed in the lower part of the screen and your advertising banner or logo is displayed in the upper part of the screen. It is of course possible to make a link from the banner to your web site. It is also possible to use the animated banner and get a considerable amount of space for your presentation. Regarding the fact that Jigs@w Puzzle Promo is very small, it is possible to exhibit it on your web site, distribute it via e-mail, on disk or CD-ROM. " |

http://www.analogx.com/
for Netstat live.. It is a little network speed tracker that is great being it lets you see if your d/l are flowing along or slowing down. Also can tell you over all cpu load and so on.. http://www.savardsoftware.com/ TurboTop is one of the freeware programs on the site. It lets you make any window "on top all the time" being a few older programs will not do that and it can sort of suck if the drop behind all the other windows you have open. I used this for Windvd2000 for a long time. http://www.broken-cross.com Broken Cross Disk Manager - This is a cd database program, site has an older version liasted as freeware and of course a newer version that is shareware. If your looking to just track the data on cd-r the freeware version works great. Has a limit of only 250ish disk but most will not ever hit that number. http://www.tcbmi.com/strokeit/ StrokeIt - "advanced mouse gesture recognition engine" - when this is running you can move the mouse and have it do commands. Like say a P opens a program or a down slash closes a window. One of those ---need to try it to get it--- sort of things. http://deinterlace.sourceforge.net/ DScaler - if your running a tv card on your cpu to watch tv in a little window or whatever.. This is a freeware replacement for whatever application your running now. Just tends to look much better being it has some great de-interlace options. http://www.fraps.com/ Fraps - This is a screen cap and Frames per a second program. Lets one know how many FPS those game who seem to give no way to find out. Not too big of a deal but it can be much nicer to complain about a game running crappy on your system if you know just how slow it really is running. heh last but not least http://www.silverbandsoftware.com/tabdown/unziplify/ Unziplify - being we ALL have friends that feel the need to zip up every single file they send you and with this installed you can right click a DIR and have them all unzip at one time. Vs going - click, open, unzip, close, click, open, unzip, close. This program alone is close to being one of my all time favs |

I like this program too (used it a lot, but reinstalled windows, lost it, and then found it again today):
http://space.dolphin.free.fr/Windows/dfolder.html Allows you to see the sizes of different folders and the folders below them. Very handy.

This is a freeware taskbar clock program. Works with all versions of Windows. Replaces your boring Window taskbar clock with a highly configurable clock that shows the day, date, time, cpu usage, memory.

If you like Winzip but want a free clone, I suggest ZipCentral:
http://zipcentral.iscool.net/ I spent time late last year downloading all the free zip based compression tools I could find and ZipCentral was the most "Winzip"-like one I could find. Not really any bells and whistles but it gets the job done. Also, if you need command line zip and unzip utilities, Infozip/unzip are excellent: Infozip: http://www.info-zip.org/pub/infozip/Zip.html Info-unzip: http://www.info-zip.org/pub/infozip/UnZip.html You just need the zip.exe and unzip.exe binaries to be put in your Windows system directory. MP3Trim - This is a great piece of freeware for cropping seconds of the start & end of your mp3s. It can also add a fade in and fade out to the song and can adjust the volume.
KillAd - This is essential. It is only 42kb in size and doesn't have any fancy things to it, apart from the fact that it just straight up stops pop-ups.
