That's the best way IMHO. It'll only close what you want closed, and you only have to specify each window once. It doesn't kill the windows you want popping up and doesn't interfere with anything BUT the windows you want it to kill. I love it...

Well, my favorite freeware is PowerStrip (unregisterd). You can overclock your card with it but also it improves performance on most games (or programs)

Easycleaner
EasyCleaner is a small program which searches Windows' registry for entries that are pointing nowhere. Deleting these entries will speed your computer up.
EasyCleaner also lets you delete all kinds of unnecessary files like temps, backups etc. You can search for duplicate files and you can view some intresting info about your disk space usage! And starting from version 1.7 deleting invalid shortcuts from start-menu is possible as well.

ISO Recorder PowerToy

this may be of limited utility, but if you need to burn a disc image in win XP, it's great. after 2 coasters in Easy CD Creator I got frustrated and downloaded this little program and it worked like a charm.

AVG Anti-Virus; it's caught stuff Norton has missed. I think it's still freeware; www.grisoft.com
Slightly less useful, and they've gotten annoying with their popups, but Weatherbug, esp for always-on connections; leaves the current temp in your taskbar, and quickly gives access to radar, weathercams, alerts, etc. www.weatherbug.com

Very simple, yet addictive, graphical hack and slash dungeon crawl.

Crazy Browser. Basically, it's modified IE6. It has a LOT of little tweaks to simplify your life.

CrazyBrowser and PowerIE may have come from the same company (based on the layouts of both web sites), but they are definitely different products and CrazyBrowser is still free.

In my spare time (of which I have far too much) I wrote this nifty DVD video collection manager that I call DVD Catalogue. It's totally freeware, so you can go snatch it here. If you want to see a quick example of how it works you can use my own collection file. I don't know how to manage file associations yet, so you'll have to run the program and open the file from there.

It's simple (not awe-inspiring, like DVD Profiler, which is a bit hardcore for me at this point in my programming career) but it's handy. Give it a try, and let me know what you think

Oh, and by the way, you have to have the Microsoft .NET Framework installed to run it. You can grab it here.

WinBar is a GREAT program to display disc space, memory, speed, etc, on your desktop. Small, too.

And, just for the record, SPYBOT is ten times better than Ad Aware for getting ad junk off your system. It actually has a feature that will "immunize" your system so future ads cannot plug themselves in. Great stuff!!
