Would I be able to run XP as well as I run W2K?
Here are my specs. Do you think XP will run as fast as 2K does or will there be slowdown. I think the biggest prob might be memory.
Duron 1Gz 320 MB SDRAM 40G HD 60G HD Voodoo 3 2000 DVD 4x CD/RW I basically just want it for the neato OS/X dock you can download for it, and the other desktop options. It isn't supported in 2K. |

XP should be fine. I'm running it on a 800MHz P3 and it's perfectly fine.
Just install the two different OSs on two different partitions. |

In my experience, XP has been faster than 2000.

You far exceed the requirements. I'm running XP on a celeron 533 with 384MB RAM and it's "like buttah."

If you look at benchmarks, win2K has a slight edge over XP in general application performance on identically configured systems. They're close enough, though, that's it's not too much of a factor. The one performance aspect where XP is much faster than 2K is boot up time. MS did a lot of work with XP to speed it up and it's probably almost twice as fast as 2K from power on to log-in.

I don't think you should have any troubles running XP either, BTW, but I think that's been pretty well covered by everyone else by now. ![]() |
