So what is Exchange 2000?
Our company announced that we would be changing from Outlook to Exchange in the next few months, and I looked on the Microsoft site, but couldn't find a general FAQ on exactly what the heck it is.
Is it just a different kind of email thing? One thing I gleaned from the MS site was more connectivity, like messaging, but that's pretty much it. We are not a computer company, we just use computers for everything, ergo, some people view them as just above witchcraft. What kind of adventures are we in for? thanks

Exchange is an e-mail server application. It resides on a network server and stores an organization's e-mails, contacts, and calendars and allows sharing and exchange of them as desired. It stores all those items in its own form of a database consisting of messages.
Outlook would still be the desktop client so I don't understand the statement of changing from Outlook to Exchange. Maybe they meant from Outlook Express to Outlook or Outlook connected to an external mail server to Outlook connected to your company's Exchange server. Exchange can be quite an adventure. I hope somebody knows what they are doing! Good luck. |

They cited better compatibility with customers' systems in the announcement, so I guess that's the main thing. We're already on the full Outlook (not Express), so they must just be adding it on.
tks

exchange 2000 has too many new features to name. And it's a radically different architecture than 5.5. If they don't do it right get ready for some downtime while they figure things out.

The thing is, we're not on Exchange at all right now. So it's completely new.
Our tech people are generally pretty good, just overworked and underpaid so they're generally pretty cranky.
