What's the best "Napster" like site these days?

With a new baby and all, I've really been out of touch with music downloads since the death of Napster.

So where can I find a reliable site that has a decent collection of tunes (not music by some mysterious independent unknown bands only kinda stuff)...I mean mainstream 70's 80's and even 90's stuff?

Thanks
Alfer

I like edonkey2000. It's neat the way they do it - you can download part of a file from someone who's got half the file, and when it's finished, it looks at other people who might have more of the file.

Most places like morpheous allow partial downloads with alternate sources if the first isn't available, but the person at the other end of the connection needs to have the whole file available before you can start downloading.

(hope the explanation makes sense)...

IRC will always be there, its gonna be the most least affected by lawsuits, changes etc BUT you can't deny that it isn't easy using other software like Morpheus. IRC can be a pain in the butt and takes patience

Patience is required for the newbies........ but if you're a little skilled in using it, it's pretty easy to just get in line and leave it be.

IRC FAQ or Help

I am vaguely familiar with IRC via mIRC. How would one go about learning how to navigate various channels and downloading from others on IRC?

is it legal to download a movie for my laptop if I already own it, and what IRC channels are good for older movie releases?
