Converting WMV files to MPEG2

I was just looking at how long it would take to convert a 30 min WMV file to MPEG2 on my computer...7 hours!!!! And that was at it's best...it started to get even slower when I surfed the web. Should it really take that long or do I just have a really slow computer. I'm using TMPGEnc to convert it.

hey, now...it was quite zippy 2 years ago It's just a PIII, 500 MHz, 128 Megs of RAM. That's my next project, build myself a new computer. I bought that one from Gateway and had nothing but problems at first. I didn't have to format it, but I was close to doing it about 4 times.

yea.. you can get instructions from vcdhelp.com

but of course you can never get the quality back

you will just end up with a huge mpeg2 file, with the crappy quality of a asf file

I found the info I needed at vcdhelp after I posted this message. I heard the same thing about converting ASF files. Plus I am doing a 21mb size file now and it is going to take 31 hours. Does it usually take this long.
