Agreed. Honestly streaming has always seemed too good to truly last at the existing prices. In my opinion in the future we're either going to see more of this with other studios creating their own streaming services while pulling content from the existing services like Netflix, Hulu, etc. or there's going to be a price hike in the existing services.

Whether this is a success or not will heavily depend on pricing.

I read many comments last night on Facebook and seems like the vast majority are unhappy with this. I think it's because most families are simply maxed out on entertainment expenses and the thought of adding yet another streaming service with "Exclusive" content is just frustrating and eye rolling.

No one here has talked about the ESPN streaming service, which is also part of this. I also wonder how pricing will go for that and if they will be able to stream major sports like NBA, MLB and such. Sports is expensive and it's killing ESPN. I have to believe their streaming service will be a minimum $15-20/month. On the other hand, a service like Sling already has ESPN on it's basic package with other channels included. So I don't know how appealing it will be for many sports homes who aren't cable subscribers to shell out that kind of money for sports alone.

Netflix must be shitting in their pants with the prospect of losing Daredevil, Jessica Jones, Punisher, The Defenders and such when this deal is terminated.

I read comments saying that while having so much choice and practically all content can be watched legally now is great, having so many subscription streaming services is too expensive and really not practical for many homes. Hence, you see many here who will only pay for Netflix, Hulu and maybe Amazon.

DirecTv: $160/month for everything including all the premiums

Hulu: $11.99/month - no commercials

Netflix: $11.99/month with the 4K and HDR ability

CBS All-Access: $9.99/month - no commercials

and lastly Amazon Prime - $99+ tax for a year

I had Sling briefly this past year mainly for Pac-12 Network (they carry all the regional channels) and because I work there and wanted to keep track of games and shows there. But, it didn't seem like a very sensible investment with how much I was already spending. I cancelled once the college season ended and not sure if I want to go back.

I have a 8 year old niece and heavily depending on pricing, I might consider the Disney service for her to watch when she comes over.

But for me personally, I'm pretty maxed out spending money on entertainment content. I have pretty much everything possible I could want with very little time to keep up with it all.

I tried subscribing to Shudder for a brief period, but I simply wasn't watching it. I ended up only losing 1 month paid for it ($5), so I cancelled.

If this new Disney streaming service is just the same stuff they were offering on Netflix, I'm not interested. I already have all the animated movies and recent live action blockbusters.

But if they offer a deep library of classic content, I'd be all over it. I'd love to see seasons of the original Mickey Mouse Club and the Sunday night show (Wonderful World of Color/Disney). The classic live action movies like Candleshoe, Boatniks and North Avenue Irregulars. And the old Disneyland park specials with Walt. That's the type of stuff I want to watch.

Damn, wish I saw the Ocho in action. Hopefully they make that a yearly thing cause that's funny as hell.

If Netflix does strike a deal with Disney, I wonder how much more in debt that'll put them. Doesn't seem to make much sense for Disney to have a subscription service, then not play their biggest franchises on there.

According to some financial analyst, Disney needs at least 32M subscribers at $9 per month just to break even for this service.

It's due to really expensive licensing and operating costs for content including original content in development.

I think they should just try to buy Netflix. That way they can transition Reed Hastings over to CEO of Disney when their current CEO retires.

It could be a long slog to 32 million subscribers, especially without the variety of the other services.

It's hard to get excited for this news. I often enjoy the escapism of watching Disney channel. But their programming is pretty much juvenile crap.

Original movies means forgettable junk like Frenemies and Radio Rebel. And has there ever been a really well done live-action series? The Star Wars show will probably be like ANT Farm with Jedi kids.

Disney was once thinking about an all-Star Wars channel for cable. Looks like they're going this route instead. I'd certainly pay $6 a month for a live action Star Wars show opposed to the same price for a Star Trek show. I can't imagine Lucasfilm would skimp on quality - it would probably be the best-looking show on TV.

Disney's live action shows are mindless fluff. A serious sci-fi epic with an enormous budget doesn't fit in with their other shows like Dog With A Blog and I Didn't Do It.
