Re: Sony Playstation Vue
I jumped on this as soon as I saw it was available. I've been using Sling TV since its introduction, but the service has been inconsistent at best. Honestly, it seems to be getting worse instead of better.
You can sign into some TV Anywhere apps with your Vue account, according to their FAQ. Notable absent from their list is WatchESPN, but other Disney networks are listed, so maybe ESPN won't be far behind.
Edit/Update - I completely overlooked it. WatchESPN is included, I just didn't see it on the list. Makes this even better decision. For ten bucks more than I was paying Sling, I get more channels and, so far at least, a much better experience.

Yeah, this works substantially better than Sling does.

Re: Sony Playstation Vue
I'm assuming that if you are registered from a West Coast location that you can only get West Coast feeds of services such as AMC, etc. That's one thing that we've become spoiled on with satellite...being able to watch events as they air on the East Coast. Like watching new episodes of Walking Dead at 6:00 PM on Sundays, for example.
If anyone on the West Coast signs up for this could please confirm or deny this assumption, I would appreciate it. Thanks.

I signed up for a free trial, but it is only a temporary thing. We have no plans to dump Dish, and when the techs come to upgrade our receivers, I'm getting a Dish hookup, with DVR in my bedroom.

Once they get Roku on board I think I will give this a shot, just resubscribed to Sling and seems to work better with the Roku 3 than in the past with a stick but many more channels with Vue. Looking at their website it appears regional FOX sports networks are included with Core Slim. Can anybody confirm if they can watch the NBA/MLB/NHL for their local teams on this.

Plus it's just stupendously slow on my Fire TV Stick (though that might be a Wifi issue).

On the slim trial at $30.
Not too bad. Annoying that I can't FF through "Catch-up" programs.

Re: Sony Playstation Vue
activated my trial last night, so I can watch the final-4 games on TBS and Walking Dead finale live (usually get it on Amazon, but chances are high it would be spoiled before I watch it).
I like it so far, quite impressed. I doubt I'll keep it though, even for $30/month, it costs less to just buy the seasons of shows I want on Amazon, and then I get them forever. If it could replace Hulu for me, I'd consider it more.

So any additional opinions about this? This might be a cheaper service for my family, but I worry about my parents as they're not technically savvy. Is there an option to browse Vue in Spanish?

HBO and Cinemax were added today, you get both the live feed and On Demand. $15/month a piece or they're also part of the uber expensive "Ultra" bundle.

That's interesting that you can subscribe to the premiums without a bundle. And also that the HBO sub gives you access to HBO Now. So now I can subscribe thru Vue and get both the live channel and what I already have for the same price.

Anyone in the Chicago area using this?
I'm considering giving this a shot. I saw Comcast Sportsnet may be available on a region by region basis. If this is available in the Chicago area that will pretty much seal the deal for me.

I resigned up for NBA season through my appletv and it works great but one big annoying thing is the fast forwarding. I was watching a saved game and there was no way to fast forward the commercials other than to pause it and blindly move the bar a few minutes. I was regularly missing plays and it took more time to rewind and try to find when the commericals were then it would if I would have just watched them. Most apps have a skip 30 seconds button or you see a sped up version of what's going on as you fast forward so you can tell when to stop. That's a poor design decision.

Something that might be of interest to those with a Roku. Roku has added a grid guide to their Vue channel.

Our local area was included in this update. Maybe yours has been included as well?

PlayStation Vue Added Over 200 ABC, FOX, & NBC Locals Yesterday
Yesterday PlayStation Vue’s Vice President Dwayne Benefield announced that they have added over 200 new locals including Tribune owned locals. This puts PlayStation Vue at over 450 locals now This helps push PlayStation Vue back into the running for one of the services with the most locals. Hulu still leads the race for the most locals with over 600 live locals but YouTube TV and PlayStation Vue are gaining on them.
“I am excited to announce that PS Vue users in select markets will gain access to local broadcast stations at no extra cost, starting today. With this expansion, PS Vue now offers more than 450 local ABC, CBS, FOX, and NBC stations, in cities all over the US – from Buffalo, NY, to Honolulu, HI.” Said Dwayne Benefield.

I have all the networks but ABC now.
Probably won't ever get that back as it's a Sinclair station in my market and Sinclair pulled their channels from Vue and put out a somewhat insulting press release.*
I had a hard time finding that my Fox affiliate was added on that list because I was looking in the S section but apparently they put Seattle under "Emerald City" for some reason.
*They literally said it wasn't worth their time making a deal because Vue has a "very small subscriber base" and told people to switch to Youtube TV.

Wait, what the...

PlayStation Vue Won’t Let You DVR The 200 Newly Added ABC, FOX, & NBC Locals
Yesterday PlayStation Vue added 200 live locals. The bad news is you can’t DVR any of them according to the PlayStation Vue help page you can’t record them. This is not a new issue as you already couldn’t DVR HBO, Showtime, and Cinemax. You also couldn’t fast forward FOX, FX, and FXX recordings.
A statement on PlayStation Vue’s website simply says “Due to streaming rights, however, select channels and programs cannot be recorded to DVR.”

I think everyone is struggling with "cable over the internet" services. DirectTV Now is hemorrhaging customers too. I think if people want cable, they'll keep cable. Otherwise, if they "cut the cord," most are looking for on-demand streaming, instead of replicating the cable experience. Really only sports and news are the things people ever feel the need to watch live.
It didn't help that all these streaming services had odd restrictions or exceptions for DVR on certain channels and the like.

I did a 7 day trial recently, and it wasn’t bad. But their UI interface was just absolute crap. That said, while Hulu’s is marginally better, they have a ton to offer, including their live TV, which I use. I haven’t seen any other service yet that has something better to offer when it comes to streaming live TV.
And I disagree about replicating the cable experience. Hulu does a great job and I get original programming, DVR, and I don’t have to pay a monthly service charge to use a cable box.

I think I'm going to try YoutubeTV also and see how it is. I'd prefer not to go with a Google service, but it might be the best option.
