I would be all over that $99 option. I'm surprised they are doing it though since it undercuts the cable pricing by so much. I can see people ditching the cable version for this, even without cutting the cord completely.
Still I guess that makes it more competitive with Netflix/Amazon Prime.

Is there a listing of their current streaming programming?

Re: HBO GO Standalone Streaming Service Coming in 2015
not sure if this is an HBO Go thing or XBOX One thing, but is there anyway to not have Go log you off when you turn off XBOX? i am watching Entourage and when i shut down and go back the next day, i am logged out and have no idea where i left off...
does HBO Go remember what episode you were on at least? a queue or something?
thanks.

Well that's definitely unique to the Xbox One version of HBO Go.

Has this gone live yet? Once it does, then I'm going to hit critical mass as far as dumping my cable service from TWC, including the DVR.

Is the stand alone service the same programming has HBO On Demand? HBO through Sling TV gives me just about their entire library on demand, including every episode of Game of Thrones.

It looks like that there are only 2 providers available now, itunes and Optimum, neither of which I currently subscribe to.

Yes, I believe so. The main difference is that you don't get a traditional linear HBO channel like you do with Sling. But it really doesn't matter since the programming is available to steam as soon as it shows up on the regular channel.

Re: HBO GO Standalone Streaming Service Coming in 2015
I ended up paying for two months of HBO Now after the iTunes trial month. I tried to cancel after GOT ended and before I got charged for the second month but was a couple days too late. I guess I'll rewatch season 5 to get more for my money.
Overall, I was satisfied with the service, except the Apple exclusivity meant I had to watch on my phone. GOT episodes were usually live by 7 pm Pacific or earlier, so that was nice.

I called up my local cable company and they told me HBO was $18/month. I said that I'll sign-up with HBO Now instead since it costs less. She told me to wait a minute, came back and offered me HBO for $11/month.

Ballers and True Detective S2 have been pretty big disappointments so far, imho. But there is a lot of good content on HBO Now outside of Game of Thrones.

Also keeping my fingers crossed that this $99 per year rumor comes true.

Re: HBO GO Standalone Streaming Service Coming in 2015
I don't doubt that there's some stuff on there I'd like to watch (like The Maze Runner listed above as a future release), but the phone is a big drawback. Plus I have a ton of HBO back catalog that I can watch on BD/DVD and on Prime. I've never had premium cable before this service launched, so I've gotten used to having other ways of watching stuff.
I bought True Detective season 1 digitally but still haven't watched it. I know I don't need to in order to watch season 2, but the reviews haven't sounded promising.

I am having soooooo much fun with HBO Now. Almost done with S1 of GOT and have seen John Wick and Neighbors. I like it A LOT more than Netflix and Hulu.

I added this to my Sling subscription last night... Live channel works great however the on demand menus are terrible! 90% are just pictures without text describing what it is. Stuff like GoT is obvious but most of it I had to click on once just to find out what it was. Plus scrolling thru A-Z (especially the movies section) is just nuts. Anyone else have the same issue(s)? Is the Now version the same way?

Yep, the very second. I watch most of the Sunday evening programs & you can see them pop up for on demand the instant they begin to air on the channel. I thought that was very cool because usually with streaming it's a bit behind.

I tried Sling TV's free trial and cancelled within 20 minutes. The interface is horrendous, to the point of making it unwatchable.

No word on Roku devices yet, or not at least that I could gather.
HBO Now hits Android devices, coming soon to Chromecast and Fire TV
After HBO Now was announced for Apple devices earlier this year, the network promised to bring it to the Android faithful this summer. Well, the time has come. If you own an Android phone or tablet (including Amazon's Fire devices), you can now access the standalone TV streaming option for $15 a month. You'll still have to wait to employ a Chromecast, Fire TV or Fire TV Stick to do your watching, though, but the service is said to arrive on those gadgets soon enough. Apple's 90-day exclusive window has ended, which allows folks who prefer Google's operating system a chance to give HBO Now a shot three months after its debut. And it doesn't require a cable subscription like HBO Go. If you decide to take the leap, you'll get access to shows like Game of Thrones, Silicon Valley and True Detective in addition to a library of older series (The Sopranos, etc.) and movies. However, if you choose to wait until you can stream it to your set-top box or dongle, we can't blame you.

Re: HBO GO Standalone Streaming Service Coming in 2015
I got a promotional e-mail from HBO Now saying that Fire TV and chromecast would be coming in July. (And yes, we were three weeks into July when they sent it.) I do have Fire TV so if I re-up that'd be more appealing for me.
