That new feature doesn't work for a lot of newer shows. A lot of them just show a 5 second title card and credits are in the middle of the actual show.

I'm not keen on the thumbs up/down system, but maybe that's because I've used a five-star rating for various things for a long time.

Re: Netflix - News & Discussion
Don't like the thumbs change either. Recommendations are much more helpful when I can see one show gets a predicted 5 for me, while another only gets a 3. Now, presumably, they'll both simply get a thumbs up. Which makes their recommendation feature significantly less useful for me.

I haven't seen Iron Fist but Daredevil and Jessica Jones were beyond horrible and made on the cheap.
I just filled out a survey for Hulu. I wish Netflix would send me a survey.

I loved Jessica Jones but haven't really seen the other Marvel ones. It never looked cheap to me.
That said, this is a Fox purge, hopefully they'll re-establish a deal but odds are Amazon or Hulu (which is co-owned by Fox) bought the rights exclusively.

Hardly made "on the cheap" Netflix is spending over $200M on all the Marvel shows. Average budget per episode is over $3M
That's equivalent to the per episode production budget of many network TV or premium cable shows.

You have to factor in sets, costumes, locations, crew, paying the writing staff, shooting permits, hair, makeup, editing, actors & production staff salaries etc. Plus, New York, where all these Netflix shows are filmed, is a very expensive place to shoot. Most shows film in Canada instead because shooting in New York is too expensive. Netflix also has to pay Marvel and ABC for licensing and that's also very expensive.

^And well worth it.
Little to no CGI is just fine by me, though I would disagree with that assertion. it is used, where necessary and thankfully not to excess.
My only concern about heading towards 50% original content is if it means less non-original content.
If it means more original, and more or about the same, non-original, I'm fine with that.

I'm not a huge fan of Netflix overall, but Daredevil and Jessic Jones are two of my favorite shows of this century. I hope they keep making shows like this forever.

I have Netflix, Hulu+ and Amazon Prime. While I'm getting disappointed at most of the new offerings, the 3 services combined always offer something and at a lower price than my DirecTV or Comcast ever was.

Netflix Orders TV Series Adaptation Of ‘The Haunting of Hill House’ Book From Mike Flanagan, Amblin TV & Paramount TV

Netflix has given a 10-episode straight-to-series order to an untitled horror drama series from genre filmmaker Mike Flanagan (Ouija: Origin of Evil, Oculus, Hush), Steven Spielberg’s Amblin TV and Paramount TV.
The project is a modern re-imagining of Shirley Jackson’s classic 1959 novel, The Haunting of Hill House, considered one of the best ghost stories of the 20th century. It originated with Amblin TV’s Darryl Frank and Justin Falvey, fans of the book, who tracked its rights to Paramount Television. Flanagan was tapped to write, direct and executive produce and his producing partner, Trevor Macy, to executive produce a potential TV series adaptation. The pitch was sold to Netflix for development, which led to the straight-to-series order. Frank and Falvey also executive produce.
The Haunting of Hill House has been adapted to the screen twice as the 1963 and 1999 features, both titled The Haunting.
Flanagan and Macy have previously worked together as writer/director and producer, respectively on the features Oculus, Before I Wake, Ouija: Origin of Evil, Hush and Netflix’s upcoming film Gerald’s Game, based on Stephen King’s novel.
This marks the first scripted Netflix series for Amblin TV. The company co-produces Netflix’s docu series Five Came Back, about the work of five legendary Hollywood directors during WWII. The three-part docuseries, which features an interview with Spielberg, debuted on March 31.
Amblin TV just wrapped its NBC/Uni TV drama pilot Reverie and an ABC Studios multi-camera/hybrid family comedy presentation toplined and produced by reality stars Joseph “Rev Run” Simmons & Justine Simmons. The company also is behind CBS’ freshman drama series Bull, which has been renewed for a second season, and FX’s acclaimed The Americans.
This is the third Netflix series for Paramount TV, joining 13 Reasons Why and the upcoming Maniac, starring Emma Stone and Jonah Hill. The company’s series portfolio also includes Berlin Station on EPIX, School of Rock on Nickelodeon, Shooter on USA, and the upcoming Jack Ryan on Amazon and The Alienist on TNT.
Amblin TV and Paramount TV previously collaborated on the Fox series adaptation of Minority Report.

Re: Netflix - News & Discussion
Well, the "thumbs" rating system just started for me this last week. Really annoyed to see that all my old ratings have been wiped out How hard would it have been been for Netflix to just convert old 1 and 2 star ratings to "thumbs down" and 3+ stars to "thumbs up"?
