Re: The Roku Thread

With no 5.1, and "HD" picture not too great. Fail.

You do get the first X-Men movie for free, but my D-VHS tape looks better.

Re: The Roku Thread

Anyone have one of the new Roku TVs from TCL or HiSense?

https://www.roku.com/roku-tv

I've been looking for a new 40-inch TV for the bedroom. I was planning to get a cheap LG or Samsung and another Roku 3. That would probably run around $400-$450. The 40-inch TCL is only around $300. And it seems to get decent reviews.

Re: The Roku Thread

I own and am very happy with a TCL TV but I don't have the Roku model, I hear the Roku integration is quite good though.

Thanks for the info - that's awesome news. Comcast probably figured since HBO is going stand-alone, they don't need to tick off subscribers.

yeah, I'm picturing Roku offering Comcast a "Decent but 'not enough'" sum of cash to allow access, and with the April 2015 launch of HBO Go solo, that pile slowly shrinking to the point where Comcast finally said alright.

Occasionaly I will see the picture get jerky for a split second, almost like it is in slow motion, then come right back. Picture looks good. Maybe not full 1080p but defintiely HD. Nice to not have to worry about blacked out games, and being able to choose which feed you want to watch. All in all I recommend it.

On a side note, anyone have any luck finding a travel case that works well with the roku 3? I know some people just put all the pieces in a bag, but I was spoiled by Western Digital offering a nice zippered blowmolded case for the WDTV that I used to use.
Hate quoting myself, but just wanted to update this in case anyone else is on the fence. I have had Hockey Streams for a couple months now and couldn't be happier. A few minor hiccups here and there, but it is great being able to watch an out of market game live. I believe there is a slight dealy, but stuff happens on screen before I get the notification from the ESPN app. It really is great, and I don't use it to nearly it's full potential. In addition to NHL games there are several other leagues games that are streamed on there. As well as the occasional special from the NHL network.
Big differences for me between Hockey Streams and the NHL streaming package was price (Hockey Streams is much cheaper) and there are no blackouts with Hockey Streams. The NHL streaming package will black out any local market games that are airing on locally available TV on any channel.

Re: The Roku Thread

Roku just got FXNOW. You'll need to subscribe to a participating TV provider.

New in the U.S. Roku Channel Store: FXNOW

We’re happy to announce that FXNOW is available today on Roku players and Roku TV in the U.S. In addition, the channel has been added to Roku Search, which will now include FXNOW shows and movies. Roku Search shows you which of many top streaming channels have the content you’re searching for in one place, letting you choose to watch the streaming channel that’s best for you.

FXNOW offers on-demand access to the biggest and best lineup of critically acclaimed dramas, hit comedies and blockbuster movies from three networks: FX, FXX and FXM. TV lovers can watch the latest episodes of Sons of Anarchy, American Horror Story, The League and much more. New episodes of FX and FXX original series are available next day – just in time for the new seasons of Justified, Archer and It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia coming in January.

Fans of The Simpsons are really in luck. FXNOW delivers a one-of-a-kind Simpsons experience with access to every episode ever. That’s 26 seasons!

Customers who subscribe to FX through the following providers can access the FXNOW channel on their Roku players and Roku TV:

AT&T U-verse
Bright House Networks
Cable ONE
Charter
Comcast XFINITY
Cox
Midcontinent Communications
Optimum
Suddenlink

Re: The Roku Thread

Foxnow and FXnow also works with Directv but for some reason FXnow says I need to upgrade my tv package or change parental controls. I have that tier and parental controls are set to allow all ratings.

Hmm, I logged out then back and now it works.

I expected that all shows would be up on FX but looks like only the Simpsons
has that option.

No eps of Archer yet and only last five for Gotham, The League is only season 6.

Still good if you missed recent eps.

Re: The Roku Thread

Is roku transitioning to a "new" online login address ? I say new in quotes because I log in to their website infrequently.

In the past, clicking on "sign in" always took me to https://owner.roku.com/

Tonight the "sign in" address was https://my.roku.com/signin

Re: The Roku Thread

They just had a bit of a system update for the units- my background screen looks slightly different, and they've included DTS in the audio options now- you may need to go back and set it for that if your receiver supports it (and I don't know of any in the past 10+ years that don't.) Haven't seen anything actually use DTS yet, CinemaNow supposedly does but still getting 2-channel PCM out of that, and the interface on it is still unusably slow.

Re: The Roku Thread

A lot of people using Plex have DTS files, so it's a good thing. Though I believe it was supported in the past, at least as pass thru.

Unlikely. They just recently released the Android and iPhone apps, consoles will probably be next, then Roku and Apple TV.

It's Garry Shandling's Show: Season 1
This is the theme to Garry's show,
The theme to Garry's show
Garry called me up and asked if I would write his theme song.

I'm almost halfway finished
How do you like it so far?
How do you like the theme to Garry's show.

This is the theme to Garry's Show,
The opening theme to Garry's show.
This is what you listen to while you watch the credits.

We're almost to the part
Of where I start to whistle
Then we'll watch It's Garry Shandling's Show.

// whistling //

This was the theme to Garry Shandling's show.

Brilliant!

I have the NHL package this year, might give this a shot next season if they still exist
