Actually, if they don't sticker the DVDs as "defective" and just throw them in a pile, DD will get those rewrapped and sold as "new". So yes, you will get defective merchandise.

Wow. That is just insane. DeepDiscount must be getting desperate. I cringe at the few titles I ordered around the first of the year. Still waiting on an exchange myself.

A strong action would be for DVD Talk to place a phonecall to DeepDiscount. Tell them if they don't shape up, they won't have DVD Talk as their supporter. I would imagine this site brings them a few bucks.

Actually you have it backwards, DVD Talk's site makes money when people order through their link to DeepDiscount.

Actually, it works both ways. DVDtalk supports DeepDiscount by sending them more traffic and DVDtalk is supported by the traffic it sends. If it didn't work out well for both parties, affiliate links would slowly die out..

Re: Deep Discount - Used to Love You, Now I Hate You

so i dont start a new thread i figured i would post in here for my 2008-2009 deep discount issue.

ordered some Blu's on 11-20. they were shipped immediately via media mail and arrived at my house in 2 days.

put in a single order for Wall-e Blu knowing it was listed as OOS right before the sale ended. DD shipped it on december 15 via media mail. never showed up. i contacted them about a replacement and they got back to me within 24 hours that they would ship out a replacement. i asked them to upgrade to first class so i didnt have to wait another 10-15 days and they just said "you should receive it within 2-3 days", and sent me a media mail shipping confirmation today.

So Spacey you lied...you said you were never ordering from them again

I've said the same thing and that 20% off sale does me in every time.

i thought about that. i said it and then Dave contacted me directly and rectified the situation which earned them points back. i have a running scorecard now that is weighted depending on the issue and resolution.

i did skip the June sale though! First time in a long time. But to be honest I think that was because I was in between not buying anymore DVDs and not enough Blu-rays available that I wanted to purchase...so i can't give my will-power too much credit.

How do you know it was the same set? You said the damage was different. Just because the "floater" was the same disc? That just says that the manufacturer has a problem with the batch.

Personally, I think the anti-floater faction is a little over the top. Sure -- if I buy a movie off the shelf (which I do more often than ordering online), I'll buy a package that doesn't rattle over one that does.

But if I order a movie online, I expect that the movie is being handled much more than it would be in the process of stocking it on a store shelf. The odds of the disc being knocked loose are much greater. I still open the package and inspect the disc. If it is damaged, yes - send it back! But I won't send it back just because it is rattling -- this is very wasteful of my time and money as well as the company's. Because of your OCD my prices could go up in the long the run. The only person that benefits is the shipping company (UPS, USPS, etc.).

I was thinking the same thing. But I think the same thing every time I read a thread where someone says "I will never order from this retailer again."

Of course I say teh same thing pretty regularly, but end up shopping at the same place again anyway.

First of all, I am notorious for not noticing that (so no, I didn't) ...

... but how does that change the point?

Re: Deep Discount - Used to Love You, Now I Hate You

It took a lot less for me to stop using their website for anything I cared about getting. I might order the odd disc here or there but that's it. Luckily they have their physical store near me so I just partake of the semi-annual sale there.

Re: Deep Discount - Used to Love You, Now I Hate You

I have never had customer service complaints about DD (problems have always been dealt with to my satisfaction), but ever since the shipping fees to Canada were raised to a level that is no advantage over the others, it is no longer the sole best option in most instances. I now alternate between DD, DVDPacific, CDUniverse, and sometimes Amazon and ebay.

Re: Deep Discount - Used to Love You, Now I Hate You

My only complaint with DD is that SOOOO many brand new titles are automatically in "back order" status. Starting from the day they are released. And I've waited as long as two weeks before they got the damn thing in stock. And not obscure or hard to find titles either. Ridiculous!

Re: Deep Discount - Used to Love You, Now I Hate You

I just have a general question about DeepDiscount and thought I'd put it here.

Why is the 'sale that shall not be name' not supposed to be named? Am I missing something or is it an inside joke? I haven't gotten in on one of their sales so I'm just curious.

Re: Deep Discount - Used to Love You, Now I Hate You

They (along with DVD Planet) have had a twice-annual 20-25% off sale for probably the last five yrs.. typically in June and Nov. The boards will light up when it hits so mods are quick to delete any early posts about it.

That's a sign of trouble and bad economic times. That means they aren't paying their debts to the studios and they aren't able to get the new releases on credit any more.

Which is one thing, but making it so freaking difficult to cancel the order is another.

Re: Deep Discount - Used to Love You, Now I Hate You

And the fact of the matter is that only Deep Discount knows when and if there will be a sale. People will start threads about the sale in August or April which are ultimately just a waste of space. When there's a sale we will know it and if past performance is any indication, we will be the first to know it.

Re: Deep Discount - Used to Love You, Now I Hate You

Is there any way to tell if any particular DVD is on sale at DD at any time?

There is of course the obvious way when it's part of a sales promotion (X% off, or BOGO, etc...) but I mean the ones that, as far as I can see, are not part of any of those sales.

There is a particular one I want to get but money is tight just now so was going to wait a liitle bit. Just want to make sure it's not on sale so I can expect the price to be close to what it is now later on.

Thanks,

James

Re: Deep Discount - Used to Love You, Now I Hate You

I don't think there's any definite way to tell. Most DVDs are, I believe, 30-40% off the "Why Pay $xx.xx?" price. There might be a way to narrow that down by studio or something. Anything more than 40% is probably on sale, either part of a promotion you might find a banner ad for, or maybe a temporary price drop/match.

And if you see something in the "Top Sellers" lists that's not a new release, I'm betting it's on sale.

You could always mention the specific item, and maybe someone would know something about its price history.

(BTW, this seems like a strange place to post this question. Do you really hate DD now?)

Thanks!

Well it's approx 50% off. But it's been that way for at least a month.

It's the Sherlock Holmes Complete Collection (Brett). It's at $110.89

Of course now that I have posted it watch the price jump.

James

P.S. No, don't hate DD. Just didn't want to start a new thread.
