Other possibilities might be that their switch to "Deepdiscount" from "DeepdiscountDVD," when they expanded their product line, has had the effect of reducing their overall profit margins. And they're raising prices to compensate.

Or they could be seeing increased costs from their distributor which are being passed on to consumers. (Just going over my wishlist, it looks like only certain studios were effected. I've noticed that all of the MGM and Anchor Bay titles increased. None of the Warner Bros titles I've looked at seem to have changed.)

Personally, I think the recent postage increase may be contributing to it. They have to figure that in somewhere.

I guess it costs an extra $3.32 to ship my Alien Quadrilogy, taking 10-14 days to receive it.

It went up from $45.33 to $48.65. I sense a Fox sale coming soon.

No, I don't own this set. Yet.

Also, they're advertising it as a "New Price Bite!" which it is certainly NOT. It's gone up in price.

The prices on the Paramount "Back to School" promotion appear to be lowered to the original sale price.

Most Anchor Bay titles still seem to be up a couple bucks, but hopefully they are working out the kinks.

Just about everything on my wish list has gone up an average of 10%. If the prices remain as they are, I won't be buying much if there's a 20% off sale this Nov.

The 20% off sale is still about two months away, though... it won't happen until sometime in November if past is prologue. If that's their intent, it seems a little early to be doing it.

And even then, they never jacked up the prices of that many titles before. The $9.xx MGM never went up befpre the sale, and the Anchor Bay titles were always at a standard 40% off all the way through the sale.

I thought by now that the prices would have been corrected back to the original ones. Maybe this isn't a glitch after all and DD has raised their "profit margins". There's not a huge profit being made when they discount to the max and make up for it in quantities sold. I'm surprised.

Maybe they're trying to generate some extra cash flow to help pay off the settlement to Scholastic over the Harry Potter early release fiasco.

It looks like the same phenomenon carried over to their sister site DVDPlanet. Almost half of the items in my wishlist increased by approximately a dollar each.

It erased some stuff from my cart and a few of them are up about 5%.

But what's weirder is that like everything is out of stock (though it was in stock just a few days ago) and the expected date is 10/12 for all of it. And this is a mish-mash of items.

Anyone else have nothing in stock?

Yeah, I went to put in an order at DVD Planet last night, but held off when I discovered the September coupons were expired.

Then went back in to their site today with the new October coupons only to discover that three of the items I was going to order each went up anywhere from $3 to $5 apiece just since the previous evening.

Something is definitely going on at DDD and DVD Planet. Some of the price increases I saw were higher than Amazon's regular prices. Buyer beware!

I did a price check on five new and upcoming releases I'm interested in at both DD and Amazon. The results. (Amazon price is in redDD price is in blue.)

Kubrick Collection $55.99 $58.51
Blade Runner 5 disc $54.99 $62.17
Serenity SE $19.99 $21.29
Robocop 20th Ann SE $14.99 $16.01
Twin Peaks Gold Box $64.99 $73.20

TOTAL: $210.95 $231.18

No shenanigans; I just picked five titles I'm interested in and compared the prices at both retailers. Amazon was less expensive on all five of them, with a difference of more than $20 in the total prices.

"Deep discount" my arse.

I just happened to be by the site today, and noticed most all on my wishlist has increased by at least a dollar as well. They can't be the cheapest forever.

My Math, My Bad

Sorry, my spreadsheet had a bad formula and it repeated data from the previous column (week).

However I manually double checked and yes, the increase and decreases are correct.

I will rework the spreadsheet this weekend to post corrected values.

Thanks to all who caught the error.
