I think I got gypped by ashfaultsclassicmovies.com

Someone from their website emailed me because I review old movies on IMDB. They suggested I might want to look at their website's online list of offerings.

They sell, according to their site, movies made prior to 1980 that are in the public domain, mostly TV stuff. So I ordered two old faves.

I got an email from them the day after I placed the order, noting that one of the titles is backordered because it has to be internationally shipped.

However, I have yet to receive the movie that they claimed could be shipped "next week."

I have emailed them numerous times with no response received, including a few days ago when I emailed them through their "want list" facility on the website (as in, I ordered these movies and I WANT THEM.) I have tried the phone number on their website and it is disconnected.

Do I have any recourse, or have I just become yet another sneer-worthy Otter denizen who got took?

Have they charged your credit card? You did not use a debit card, right? Was there a note on their website that after 3pm the dozen is half price?

If you have been charged and you used a credit card, you can always dispute the transaction. You have either 60 or 90 days to do so.

Right or wrong, I'd wager 95% of English speakers have no idea from where that term derives.

Is gypsy an ethnicity? I always thought "gypsy" referred to any itinerant worker, no?

Okay, would it make you guys feel better if I said I think I got "Rommed" by ashfaultsclassicmovies.com?

Anyway, I still haven't received either movie, nor have any of my attempts to contact the company been successful. I used my debit card for the purchase, so I guess I'm hosed.

The phone number on their website is wrong -- my bank statement had it correct, but when I call it I get a fax tone. WhatEVER.

When did place the order? Did you read their FAQ?

8. How long will it take to ship my titles?
In-stock items ship within 3 weeks. If any of your titles are out of stock we will notify you. Items on back
order may not be available for shipment for 3-6 weeks.

I would have bailed right there but there were other items there that would have made me bail as well.

I think, I too, got stiffed by Ashfault's Classic Movies

Vibiana, I Googled and found your post on this forum. I joined so I can correspond with you about Ashfault's Classic Movies
(www.ashfaultsclassicmovies.com).

I see you posted on 8/2/07. Did you ever receive any
satisfaction from ACM?

I placed an order (with credit card) with ACM on November 9. I promptly received an e-mail from them, thanking me for my order.

But, at 12/11/07, I have not received the DVD. I've sent them 3 e-mail inquiries and have gotten no replies. I looked up the details of their domain registry at Who.Is
(http://www.whois.ws/whois_index/a/do...ist.a.0781.php) and like you, I called the phone listed for the ACM site administrator (Katy Lynne). But it turned out to be a fax tone.

I'd be interested to know how your situation with ACM turned out.
Thank you,
SkyOtter

Vibs, I know you don't venture much into the main forum, but man, there was no reason for you to order from a site that looked like this. It looks like it was put up in 10 minutes using an altavista template. The site just screams "scam". Take a look at legitimate sites like Amazon, DDD, etc. This site looks amateurish by comparison.

There's no think. You got ripped off. Hopefully you used a credit card so you can challenge it or challenge via PP.

Is there any way mail fraud statutes can be invoked, since they seem to operate out of a P.O. Box. If you can get the Post Office on them, that'll get their attention fast. Contact the postmaster of the location and drop a note that something shady may be going on? It's a stretch, I know.

Problems with ashfaultsclassicmovies.com

I know this original thread is now almost a year old, but I've had trouble with Ashfault's Classic Movies so I thought I would add my experiences. Its been seven weeks since my order, they don't return e-mail, and the phone number on their web site doesn't work. Like someone else discovered, the phone number listed on their Whois information is apparently a fax, so I faxed them a short letter asking for a response about my order.

Besides asking my credit card company to refund my money - which they might do whether or not a certain time has passed (that just kicks it back to the merchant, Visa doesn't care what happens then), my next step - and I advise anyone else who has gotten screwed by these guys - to register a complaint with the Ohio Attorney General's office here:

http://www.ag4ohio.gov/Public/consumer.aspx?s=209

there's both an on-line form and an 800 number you can call.

Ashfault's Classic Movies is a SCAM

My story is similar to other victims of ACM, Inc. I ordered Dear Ruth (1947) for my wife and it was within several hours that I got that pit in my stomach. I received no acknowledgment email and was unable to contact the company given the phone number on their site is a non-working number. I did a whois on their domain and see that the Admin Phone number 866.672.5991 is a FAX. Well, I FAX'd my complaint to this number demanding a refund. The next day I received a call from the owner of this number indicating that he has received > 20 messages from other victims of ACM and will work with any of the authorities to have this site shutdown. It appears, the owner of the domain for ACM (Katy Lynne) stole his phone number when registering the domain with Yahoo. Also note that this POS works under another website as well: www(dot)angelfire(dot)com/planet/ashefault/

The purchase cost of $21.49 was charged immediately to my bank (it was a debit/Master Card). I disputed the charge with my bank. They credited my account for the full amount and they are sending me a new card this week.

I have already contact one website that has ACM, Inc. listed in their links of interest. After letting them know that this business is a scam, it was immediately removed. I will be looking for other web sites that contain links to ACM as well as contacting Yahoo.com (hosting site) and Earthlink (email) indicating that this site is an illegal business.

I ask that everyone who has fallen prey to this fraudulent company report it to the following (I have already reported to these as well):

Your Bank / Credit Card Company to dispute the purchase.

Attorney General for the State of Ohio
https agcares(dot)ag(dot)state(dot)oh(dot)us
At this time there are 9 complaints including mine filed on 9/08/2008.

Re: Problems with ashfaultsclassicmovies.com

I really MEANT to post a reply to my original message back in June. Like others, I never got replies to my e-mails to Ashfault about my movie order. Like Oraclejavanet, I faxed questions and threats of legal action to the fax number listed on their web page registration. I didn't hear from anyone - Ashfault OR whoever actually owns that fax number, but about two weeks later I finally received the two movies I ordered. The entire process took just over two months and not HEARING BACK from them after any of my queries is EXTREMELY FRUSTRATING but, eventually, I got what I ordered.

Re: I think I got gypped by ashfaultsclassicmovies.com

Same thing happened to me about a year and a half ago. I believe they changed their name to "Loving the Classics", also based in Ohio. Someone I know ordered a title and, again, it was "backordered". I can't be sure, but it sounds like the same company with a "new look" and the same old tactics.
