My closest distribution center is St. Louis. My turnaround times have also increased lately on the 3 at a time plan. Turnaround used to be 4-5 days, now more like 8 days. I started getting DVDs from places like Seattle, Denver, Salem, OR etc. I called to complain and they tried to tell me they do this for "inventory control" purposes. We do keep with them for now just because we live in a small town and don't have many other options, but service has gotten much worse than when I first signed up a couple of years ago. They really must think consumers are stupid.

I just canceled my service today. I was only using the $9.99 one disc at a time service, but it was great for the first two months I had it and I averaged about 7 rentals a month. Then it all went in the tank at the end of June and all of July.
The last four movies I have sent back have taken nearly a week to show up as being returned even though I'm only mailing them an hour and a half away to Austin and the discs were getting there the next day for the first two months. I have no idea why it is now taking 4-5 extra days for my discs to arrive, but they have all but killed my interest in the service. Last edited by darkside; 07-31-06 at 10:55 AM. |

I forgot to cancel my service so I am stuck with another month. I'm on 8 out at a time, and my service sucks. I received three movies this past week because four of the films were sent from other states. When discs are checked back in, most of the time the next disc isn't shipped out until the next day. Like darkside, my discs take a long time to get checked back in. I sent back a disc on Wed. and it still hasn't been checked back in. They give me some excuse about their being postal delays in my area.
Is Netflix like Blockbuster online? Can you cancel without losing the service you paid for? |

I've still had no problems on the 3 out at time plan. But then again I'm a low volume renter, as I'm busy and I'm lucky to get through 3 movies a week.
They get mine checked in fast (1 or 2 days after I mail it) and in 4 or 5 months since I've used them I've only gotten 1 disc from another state, and that only took 1 extra day to arrive (and I just mailed it back in another envelope to the local center). |

Yeah, either your particular Distribution Center or your PO really, really sucks.
I'm a heavy renter and I frequently watch a disc the evening I receive it & send it back the next day. I went through five discs last week. I sent three discs back Sat. evening and all three were checked in this morning. Three discs, all new releases, say they will be on there way to me today and if service is typical, I'll have them all tomorrow. I'm likely to flip two of those back for two more discs before the end of the week. That's pretty typical of my Netflix experience, so it's not all uniformly bad. |

My service has been great since a distribution center opened about 40 miles from me. Now the turnaround time is about 3 days.

I guess I've been pretty lucky. I'm on the 4 disc plan now and have been most of the time and haven't had any slow down. I'm a high volume customer too. I did notice though when I was on the 3 disc plan that I did get slower service one week out of the month for the few months I was on that plan. I checked out local POs and found out which ones got the discs back the quickest. I can mail it in today, they will get it tomorrow and I'll have a new one the following day almost everytime.

Some of my discs (4) were FINALLY checked back in today, but not one film is being sent out today. They are all being sent out tomorrow so I can just imagine it will be another four to 7 days before I receive any of them. This means that I will receive only 2 discs this week after returning eight discs. There is no excuse for this, and I don't know why Netflix is throttling me. The most discs I've ever had in a week is ten and that was because I had two free rentals to use because of bad shipping/checking in. I rarely manage to return eight discs in a week so the throttling is incomprehensible.
The CSR are a nightmare. They have mastered the ability of saying a lot of nothing. I have never once had a CSR who gave me a straight, honest answer. |

It sounds like both your Distribution Center and your Post Office suck. Where do you live again? Anyway, I don't blame you for being a bit pissed. If I were you I'd have probably cancelled by now. I was throttled back when they were doing it as a matter of policy, and even then things weren't nearly as bad as what you're describing (all that happened was that most discs would go out a day late). Even so, I was not happy about it.
Have you tried the old, "I'd like to speak with your supervisor" with any of the CSR's? |

So I was so sick of Netflix that I ended my subscription with them (see many many posts above). Well, I just signed up for blockbuster and have not gotten any movies yet from them but man I hate their website. Seriously, I rated a bunch of movies and in their reccomendations they actually include MOST of the movies that I have rated REGARDLESS of wether or not I rated them high or low. I mean seriously, that is pathetic. Also, their lame excuse about why they didnt send me the movie that was atop my que even though it was makred 'available now' just makes me sick. Well, so far it looks like I may go back to netflix once this monthlong free trial is over.

I'm with blockbuster right now, service is fine, seems to slow up sometimes but never too long of a wait.
I'm going to sign up for the free 2 week Netflix trial because they carry some movies blockbuster doesn't (Equinox, Marco Ferreri movies, and HOPEFULLY the widescreen version of Totoro). I just hope it goes well. I always thought it was a month free, 2 weeks seems kind of shittty to me and if they want to dick me over I could end up only getting 2 or 3. Anyone have a promo code so I can get a month free or something longer? Thanks in advance. |

I've been with BBuster for 2 years and was thinking of switching to Netflix because BBuster is taking too long to send movies out (2-3 days)... so after I spend with Netflix it'll be the same then? Both have addresses in my city, so turnaround is about the same. I guess with the 4 in-store rentals, I'd have to have a complete extra cycle in Netflix plus 1 more movie to catch up with BBuster. I guess I'll stay then if this problem of waiting to send movies is not only happening at BBuster.

That varies by area GatorDeb.
Some of us (myself included) have had no problems at all with Netflix, and always have a quick turnaround. Others get throttled repeatedly. |

So I joined Netflix on a 2-week pass. Returned 3 movies to Netflix in 1 envelope and 2 movies to BBuster in another. I had lost all 5 sleeves so I included name, address, phone number, and e-mail address inside both.
BBuster got them the next day and shipped that same day (today). Netflix doesn't show as received. I'm going to stay with BBuster and use Redbox if I can't wait ![]()

Nine months since the last Netflix comment on service!
Since the US Postal Service rate increase, mail delivery sucks. I've had 4 DVDs take longer than 6 days to get across the city. This is never happened before. Has anyone heard if Netflix switched to media mail rates or has adopted extreme throttling? |

The only difference I've noticed is instead of shipping all available titles in one day, they'll ship the majority one day and then the rest the following day. Aside from that, no issues to report here.

I have actually noticed the service improving in the past 6+ months. Aside from the 3-5 discs per year that arrive unplayable due to scratches or cracks, I have no complaints.

My netflix service is great. If I ship them out on Monday, I get the new batch on Wednesday. Can't ask for better than that.

How in the heck do you lose all the sleeves? I have been with netflix for 3 years and I think I have only lost one. No wonder why you had bad service.

Return time has greatly improved for me in the last several months. Returns used to be checked in the second day after I mailed them (eg drop off at the PO at 4PM Monday, checked in Wednesday morning). Now it's the very next morning! (drop off at the PO at 4PM Monday, checked in Tuesday morning).
The center is 2 hours away, so I don't know what changed to make it better, but I'm happy. ![]() |
