Definitely looks to me like my idea of them being bogged down on Mondays at my post office and/or distribution center is valid.

I dropped 2 dvds off at the post office sunday night, so they would have got the 7:30 am pick up on monday. I then dropped one off on Tuesday just before the 2:40 pm pick up.

The one i dropped off Tuesday got checked in early this morning, while the 2 from Sunday night just got checked in this afternoon.

I started a free trial a month ago. I have been watching movies a lot recently and my roommates and I split the account three ways, so we usually send back the movies the next day after we get them. Looks like we have already been throttled. I sent off movies on saturday even though all three showed up, two of the three won't be shipping until tuesday. Before they would be sent off the same day. Also, quite a few movies are in short or long waits now but earlier today when I checked they were available.

I'm kind of dissapointed so far, hopefully things get turned around before the end of the next billing circle or we will probably cancel the service.

Well, I'm still not getting throttled, but 75% of my queue now has a wait status of some sort, at present.

I'm still not getting throttled either. Only 14 movies out of 301 in my queue have any kind of wait (4.56%), with 10 of those being short waits. No complaints here, and I'm looking forward to finally seeing Brokeback Mountain tonight.

BigDan, is your queue heavy on recent on releases? I'm just wondering what's up with that high wait percentage. 75%, yowza!

Yeah, I think that's exactly the issue. Right now, most of my queue is fairly recent releases.

And of those that have waits, most are "Short Wait" and will probably clear up within a week or two. Only one "Very Long Wait".

They did skip three new releases on Monday and go down further in my queue to pick movies to ship to me this week... if that makes any sense at all. That happens every once in a while. I think they were underestimating the demand for Mel Brooks.

I've had no problems in the month or so I've been using the three out plan.

But then again I"m not always getting a movie, watching it, and sending it back the next day. I just don't have the time to do that everyweek. So I probably just go thorugh 3 or 4 movies a week at most.

Throttling occurs when they check them in and delay shipping them out. I don't see how they can throttle before they scan the movies and check them in as they won't have anyway of knowing they're coming from a customer they want to throttle.

Sometimes the movies take an extra day or two to get checked in. Could be slow mail, could be a back log of stuff to get scanned in, could get temporarily misplaced, etc.

I doubt it's deliberate throttling though, unless they have a new system where they can scan it, see who it's from and see if they're on the throttle list, without it showing up as being checked in.

Jarhead was on short wait for me for a while, but I was able to get it about 2 weeks after release. That probably varies by region though.

everyday i write to customer service with STOP THROTTLING ME and a definition of the word UNLIMITED. they are limiting how many you rent by purposely and admittingly slowing down service. would be sweet if they got 5000 emails like that a day.

I just got an email asking if I got my movie on time today. Jarhead is still on long wait.

I'm sure I don't rent as much as some of you guys do, but I haven't had too much trouble with the whole "throttling" business. (In a good month, I can probably get through 12-15 discs) I recently took my account off hold to start up my service again and everything seems to be "Available Now", even recent releases.

At one point, my service was starting to suck (Very Long Waits, etc.) so I waited until the day before they were going to charge me, and I cancelled my account. Then I waited a week or so to send my remaining movies back and waited until they had received them. Then I simply signed up again and... no more long waits! The same movies that I had in my queue a week before that were on a long wait were suddenly available now. I'm not sure if this was just a fluke, but it was almost like I was starting fresh as a "new" customer so I had first priority on the new releases.

It's kind of a pain in the ass to go through the trouble of cancelling, waiting, etc. but if you're getting frustrated with the service, it's worth a shot. Has anyone else tried this technique? Sorry if this has been discussed before but I didn't feel like reading through the entire thread.

I tried to sign up for netflix yesterday and use their 2 week free trial. Everything seemed fine until I looked into my credit card account this morning and noticed that had charged me 3 times. I have only with them one day and they had already tried to rip me off. Doesn't inspire confidence for the future. Thanks but no thanks, I cancelled immediately.

Still not being throttled. And now only one movie with a wait status (short wait).

I don't know what happened to make them stop throttling me, but I'm happy for it.

I am back to being semi-throttled. If Netflix receives two DVDs the same day, they will mail the next two the following day instead of the same day when they receive one DVD.

Is everyone else still receiving Netflix e-mails? Mine stopped last week. I'm not sure if Netflix stopped sending them or if my ISP is now diverting them into their non-accessible spam file.

I stopped getting emails too. Weird thing is that I was getting them 2 weeks late, for some reason, before they stopped altogether.

Same here! I have e few more waits than you do, but I have nearly 300 discs in my queue.

I hope they can keep it up!

I've started getting the e-mails again upon receipt and another upon shipment this week.

Guess it was just a snafu for a couple of weeks.

This is a very FUNNY Netflix story and it proves they purposely try to limit how many movies you rent per month. I put the "Night Stalker" series disc 1 in my queue. It said it was available NOW for rental. Note that I'm currently living in the Jackson, MS area where there is a Netflix distribution facility and I normally receive next day service until recently. Well Netflix said the disc was shipping "today" and I should receive it is in 4 days. I found that to be rather odd and thought it was just a misprint on Netflix's end. It turns out I didn't receive the disc until 4 days because it was shipped from their distribution facility in Honolulu, Hawaii even though there are other Netflix distribution facilities in Baton Rouge, LA, Houston, Dallas, Birmingham and Little Rock,AR just to mention a few closer than Hawaii. What a joke!!!!
I hope they get sued again for this type of crap.

I'm on a free trial and I don't like Netflix. I was never a heavy renter but I wanted to try it out anyway. I mailed 3 DVDs back, but only 2 got checked in and they waited an extra day before sending another. I know it says customers don't get charged for the occasional lost DVD. What happens when you cancel the free trial with a DVD still not accounted for?

They no longer claim they don't limit how many movies you can rent. They used to, got sued, and now they claim they do limit you. There isn't anything left to sue over as they no longer claim they don't throttle you.
