Overstock comes up big ... well, sorta.
On 8/30, I placed an order for a cheap ($11) study guide which one of my professors had opted to use instead of a regular textbook. There was nothing suspicious about the availability of the item and the order was placed normally.
Two weeks later, class is about to start and I've got nothing. No book, not even a shipping notification for it. I do an online chat with a CSR and he admits that somehow their system let me place an order for an OOS item. And for some reason, he cannot cancel the order (which I was charged immediately for, btw).
His solution? To apologize, give me a $10 store credit, and tell me that I can return the book when it finally arrives. I would be much happier if he could have just cancelled the damn order, but a $10 credit with no min. is awfully generous - better than I've gotten anyplace else.
