Regarding the speculation about if the code can be used more than once per account during the week long sale...

Seeing as how a) the last fiasco started because they claimed they were "testing" and b) the code is indeed being accepted more than once per account, if they try to come back later and cancel orders when they never said it couldn't be used more than once and when they obviously had every opportunity to set it up exactly like it should be during the prior "testing" then it is going to say a lot about either their integrity or their competence, depending on how you look at it.

Does the sale end the very second June 25 arrives (12:00 am) or the very second before June 25 is complete (11:59:59 pm).

Also, what time zone is it basing the closing date & time on.

Who knows? It was supposed to start tomorrow, after all.

My guess: the coupon will expire on a day that ends in "Y."

It is probably running off of GMT which is why it started "early."

Good point. Me = drooling idiot.

Well, maybe I am an idiot. I'm actually considering buying pan 'n' scam titles (Hooper, Can't Buy Me Love and Real Men) using the low price as a justisfication. I want these movies and doubt they'll ever be released in OAR... *sigh*

I imagine that they will be re-released in their OAR sooner or later (in a few years when widescreen TVs are the norm, if not sooner). But if you can watch them and enjoy them in the meantime, why not do so? You can sell the fullscreen versions later if they do get replaced.

Anyone have any guesses why the first season of Six Feet Under is showing a release date of 8/6/04, when in fact it's been out for over a year? Price drop perhaps? Still, I'd like to order it with the 20% discount, but it's coming up as a preorder.

How do they handle backorders? Do they hold your eniter order until they are in? I ordered 30 dvds, and 2 are now back ordered.

During last December's 20% off coupon sale, I ordered about 20 items and 6 were backordered. I had to call the CS rep to "push" the in-stock items into the shipping phase. I was told they were going to hold my entire order until all the backorders arrived. This would have taken an additional two weeks had I not called.

If you submit the coupon code to the order but don't finalize it by clicking the "Place Order" button, would they flag your account as having already used the code?

I remember I once had about $0.50 worth of amazon trivia points, I went through the checkout phase, but stopped right before actually placing my order. When I returned to complete the order for real, my $0.50 trivia balance had disappeared. I'm just wondering if DDD's coupon system is smart enough not to trip up like this?

If the sale ends on the 25th, you can only order once and a new batch of dvd's will be released next week, why is everyone rushing to order now?

Why not make a list over the next several days then place your order next week?

A few possible reasons people are rushing to place their orders now:

1) The coupon could end up being illegitimate and canceled.

2) DVD's that are in-stock now may become backordered as the sale end date approaches.

3) People have reported that DDD will hold entire orders while they wait for backordered items to arrive, which would compel users to place orders NOW because the high majority of items are currently in-stock

4) When the order "rush" begins, DDD's site comes to a crawl. Many users experience time outs and the inability to even complete an order. There's no guarantee that DDD's servers are capable of handling the influx which could result in some users not being able to get their orders in, regardless of what day and time they try.

#3 is most compelling for me. During last December's 20% sale, I placed about 20 items in my shopping cart and everything was in-stock. I waited for about 3 hours to finally place my order and when I revisited my shopping cart, 6 items were marked as backordered. This happened on the first day of the sale. How many in-stock items do you think will become backordered 6 days from now?

I was going to wait until Tuesday for Reno 911 too, but mainly because of the whole "no pre-order" deal. Even at $16.99 at Best Buy, for us in California, that's $18.39 after tax! Even if DDD doesn't lower their price, with the coupon, it's $15.60.

Will, they match BB's price? I'm guessing not while the coupon is running. Their whole pricematching is reliant on a Customer Service rep getting back to you. And I think they're going to be too busy over the next week to deal with a few pricematches.

Since they wouldn't give me the discount on my last order and told me to return them when I got them, I guess I will order the same 4 dvds. I can return the first shipment when I get them and when they get them back they can send them back to me at the discounted price. They pay postage twice and I wait twice, it looks like they could have just adjusted the price the first time.

I ended up spending just over $200 with one of my titles on backorder. I also paid for expedited shipping, so we shall see.

Thanks for the info!

The last 20% off sale ended early than it was supposed to. That's why I didn't wait with this one. If its still working I'll gladly order The Lower Depths.

Last December, I had two orders that included back-ordered titles, and they did NOT hold up the in-stock items. In fact, one order ended up being 3 separate shipments.

Just placed an order... $100 later but got 7 titles out of it.

THE FISHER KING
METROPOLIS
OSAMA
DISINFORMATION-COMPLETE SERIES (2D)
KEN BURNS: FRANK LLOYD WRIGHT
THE GRAPES OF WRATH
APOCALYPSE NOW

Sadly, DVDs are becoming a sickness of mine. The collection grows and grows by the week. They are my drug.

The order form says this when the coupon is entered:

The 20% discount promotion applies only to current DVD releases.
Pre-Orders and non-dvd merchandise are excluded.
