Bestbuy exchange policy

Can I exchange unopened DVDs at Bestbuy for store credit without a receipt? I got several that I didn't want and I don't have the receipt.

I returned other items to Best Buy today, but not sure about dvd's. If they do, they will give you the lowest sale price of the item.

same with mine. they do gift receipts now, thats why.
you might get lucky at the way overcrowded ones, and the guy might not care

try circuit city. for the next two weeks you can exchange w/o receipt for store credit. i went there for my unwanted dvds.

I find that for the next couple of weeks, many retailers are a little more lax with exchange rules. I've waited a couple times to return stuff during this time of year when I was rebuffed before... and after saying the magic words, "It was a gift and I already have it," was able to exchange the item for store credit/new stuff.

Each time I did this, of course, it was a legit return simply with a lost receipt.

I've sometimes had luck with unopened things saying that they were gifts and gotten credit.

Since this has nothing to do with bargains, I'm moving it to the Store Forum.

If you want to return unopened DVDs without a reciept for store credit, the best place is SUNCOAST PICTURES (or Media Play/Sam Goody, depending on where you live). They don't give you any hassle whatsoever.

Tower Records is good too, but sometimes they look at you funny or go and get their manager first.

I returned two unwanted dvd's without a receipt today for store credit and I must say they handled it extremely well. They had a special area set up for dealing with returns and exchanges in addition to their regular returns area. That made the long line move very fast. The only catch is as someone else mentioned, they will only give you the lowest price for which they ever sold the disc you are returning. I think that's fair.

I return them at Borders, and get a gift card. Never any problems. Their prices are high, of course, but it balances out since you usually get a fair amount for the returns. They carry things you can't get at Columbia House, or Best Buy, or Suncoast. Plus, you can hold onto the gift card until a 10 or 15 or 20 percent discount shows up.

The BB in Niles on Touhy is letting people exchange stuff under $200 without a receipt during their post-Christmas time. And I'm not sure about the whole 'credit is only given for the lowest sale price' policy. I returned a copy of Secret of my success for $23.

Returned an unopened DVD at Best Buy with no questions asked. I had a receipt but I ask the guy at the customer order desk what's the policy. He said we are allowed to return items without a receipt until 1/24/03. My receipt show's $15.99 ($1 cheaper online so I did a store pickup). He look it up and the lowest price in the last 30 day for my DVD was $16.99 in store so I took store credit instead.

Well, I haven't had a problem returning my 4 Tenchi Muyo sets, either. I think going to different stores, coupled with elaborate disguises and different IDs has helped immensely.

you can do it three times every year without receipt, and they take your drivers license to keep track. i'm assuming one year meaning 365 days since the first return.

i stopped by today and was informed that they won't take anything back without a receipt if it's over fifty dollars.

i got an extra lotr: collector's set, but since it's seventy dollars, they say i must have a gift receipt. which i don't have. anyone know a way around this?

thanks.

for those that returned the tenchi set how did you manage to do it?

The BB across the street informed my roommate that they wouldn't take anything over $100 in value w/o a receipt. It depends on the store, I guess.

i agree, it depends on the store; my friend returned 180 worth of items without a receipt. he was told 200 was the limit.
