Help Examine the Shipping Priority for Preorders at Best Buy Online

Current Results:

Early Preorder - Placed On Backorder: 19
Late Preorder - Placed on Backorder: 0

Analysis:

Our results show 100% of the Preorder Backorders at Best Buy have resulted from EARLY Preorders.

Based on this, I'm starting to get the feeling that Best Buy ships in reverse order:

First 0rders In = Last Orders Out

We'll keep this thread open and make that judgement once we have more resuts.

So, here's the request I opened this thread with:

A number of us have noticed that when preordering from BestBuy.com it might make sense to wait until late into the offer before placing your order.

This is based on this experiences we had on the recent preorder for Sleepaway Camp Survival Kit. When the street date arrived, a number of early orderers received "Back Order" notices while most of the late orderers received "Shipping Notices".

Please respond below if:
1) You placed a PREORDER for any title from BestBuy.com.
2) The street date passed.
3) You recieved a "Backorder Notice" after the street date.

Simply respond with:
"Title - Early Order - Backorder Notice"
or
"Title - Late Order - Backorder Notice"

And by "Late Order", I mean an order placed within the last 2 or 3 days of the preorder offer.

Return of the living dead-ordered last weds-got a back order notice on Saturday.
My last house on the left says "on order" wonder if that'll be a back order.

What we are looking for here are the results of preorders after the street date has passed. I will edit the info above so it reflects that.

But, to attempt an answer at your question:

Some companies automatically call a preorder a backorder since they don't yet stock the item. My guess is that they'll soon add a large number of copies to inventory and thus, change the status of your order from "Backorder" to "Processing".

No. I called them and backorder means back order, not on order, or pre-order.
I asked what's up with this since the Best Buy down the street already has this on the shelves already. (albeit a day early). The CSR didn't know, but
CSR did mention he's noticed this on a lot of the pre-orders that used that 10 % off a few weeks ago.

I used the 10% off a week ago to pre-order, & now both Retunr of the Living Dead & Last House on the Left are currently backordered. Yet, in the same order, The Fog has supposedly shipped last Friday. Go figure....

ROTLD. Ordered about three weeks early, received a backorder notice for it BEFORE streetdate. Actually around the same time I got shipping notice for "The Fog."

I picked it up in store Friday last week and canceled my order. Doesn't give me high hopes for my Near Dark I ordered during the 10% off sale though.

Sleepaway Camp Box Set ordered on 8/15, backordered upon release 8/20, supposedly shipped yesterday 8/27.

Although it didnt make a difference in the end, my price had been adjusted from 34.99 to $30.99 (10% off) due to the coming weekend sale. Seems like those who got that discount "in theory" may have been last served. Of course it was moot since we should have gotten, and most of us did get the $24.99 price to match the in-store deal. (Please no flames about the inconsistent CSR price adjustment stories/trips through hell...read them already...)

Interestingly enough, I do remember a few years back when a few online stores seemed to place priority fulfillment on orders that were bringing in fresh funds (ie: CC purchases) as opposed to those on GCs or store credits....

Actually, I waited until the last day of the "Electronic Coupon Offer" (the Saturday before the release), and I never received a backorder notice. I got the 10% discount, but when it shipped on Tuesday my invoice price dropped to $24.99. The Sleepaway set arrived by Friday, and I never once received a backorder notice.

Hopefully, the responses left here will help us better understand the best time to place a preorder with Best Buy.

Don't know if that data helps you or not. Anyone know where BestBuy.com orders ship from?

You got a backorder notice yet the item shipped on the release date? Seems to be happening quite a bit with Best Buy.

Doesn't help out this poll, but always good to know that there's a chance that an item still may ship on time even though a backorder notice was sent!

Same deal for me. And I waited 3 days before release date of Reservoir dogs before I placed and order, and it arrived 1 day after the release date. My order for Near Dark was placed in the middle of august and I received a backorder notice today as well.
