He's no better than a nickel back at this point in his career.

Those shutdown corners can go downhill quickly.

Yup, he's nowhere near as good as he used to be. He signed with the Steelers:

Haden’s deal is for three years and worth a total of $27 million, and he’ll make $7 million of that guaranteed in 2017.

That was quick. Haden signs a 3 year deal with the Steelers

Re: 2017 NFL Preseason Thread

Jets trade Sheldon Richardson to the Seahawks for a 2nd round pick and Jermaine Kearse.

Good trade for both teams. Seahawks get a top level guy that can be a huge contributor for a SB hopeful team. And I believe with some older guys coming off the books, they'll have the ability to sign Richardson long term.

Jets get rid of a guy who they weren't planning on paying anyway and get another draft pick to help the rebuild.

Brock Osweiler cut by the Browns

Better be smart with that big pay day from the Texans. I'm guessing there were no takers for him for a trade.

Not sure who you think the older guys are that will not be resigned. All the talk I have heard since the trade has been that this could be a one year flyer that hopefully works out until McDowell is available. Richardson is described as very high risk, but possibly very high reward. If the move to a new team really works out I can see them trying to restructure some deals to keep him. But not at the expense of losing any of the core of veterans.

no takers in trade because of the $18M salary. He'll get signed somewhere.

It's not like Denver has great options right now, though I'm not sure how much the scheme has changed. But he did decent there. Heck GB picked Flynn back up after he fell off the face of the Earth.

Ian Rapoport said today on NFL Network that there were no takers for trades and there is likely no interest in him.

But, yeah I forgot that he has a really expensive contract and rosters are now being finalized with their cap rooms. No team would want an $18M backup.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but since he was cut he's now a free agent with no contract, right? Therefore any team that picks him up can negotiate a totally new contract, and it sure as hell ain't gonna be $18M.

Still can't believe the Browns traded for him. Yes they got a second-round pick from the Texans but $16M is a lot of money to pay to acquire a late second-round pick whether you have the cap space or not.

Yes if he gets signed it will be for much cheaper.

I was saying that no one was interested because giving up assets for a guy that has that kind of contract and a bad season would have been foolish.

it was always about the draft pick, that was the full intent. I'm not sure that money would have been better spent elsewhere.

Cuts today

Biggest name cut today was Broncos releasing T.J. Ward. He will absolutely get signed by someone.

Wow, Osweiler is re-signing with the Broncos pending a physical.

Paxton Lynch not healthy at moment

Elway says Brock's future will be re-evaluated after Paxton gets healthy.

I wonder how hard it is to take the ball from Center when you tail is between your legs.

Su'a Cravens of the Redskins supposedly considering retirement.

Having trouble adjusting to the NFL game apparently according to Schefter.

probably pretty easy with $37 million total he will have collected between last year and this year.

"Redskins' Su'a Cravens reportedly pondering retirement at 22"

Wasn't at practice but I just read that the FO talked him out of it (for now).

So Osweiller has no financial incentive to play this year, other than future employability, right? Whatever Denver pays him, even bonuses, just comes from Cleveland, right?

No. Denver has to pay him the league minimum ($775k I think it is). Cleveland has to pay him the remainder of that $16 million from the contract. To answer your first question, yes. He is playing to basically continue his career beyond this year, whether it be given another chance at a starting job or as a backup.
