Didn't a few years ago the Texas Rangers attempted to develop three inning relief pitchers in the minors ? What ever happened to it?

They got traded to Baltimore and are now their rotation?

Schwarber is looking like himself again ... that will be a huge boost. Ideally they can win 2 out of 3 (really a sweep would be very ideal) against the Brewers, pretty big series.

The Pirates are a bigger threat to the Cubs than the Brewers. As most expected, the Brewers' pitching is starting to fall apart.

Probably .. but would be nice to knock them back in the standings a bit. I am not really sure they will go after a pitcher at this point (beyond some rental 5th starter or middle reliever for a low level prospect) ... probably the smarter move is to hold onto their prospects ... but should they sweep the Cubs or win 2 out of 3, their management might be more inclined to do something long term stupid for this year results.

Re: 2017 MLB Week 17 July 24-30

I haven't seen the replay, tuning in after the incident occurred, but Arizona's Robbie Ray was knocked out of the game by a line drive off his head in the game at St. Louis.

Edit: Hopefully he'll be ok. Just watched it, and he was able to ride off on a cart while fully conscious and acknowledging the crowd. The ball left the bat at 108+ mph.

Mets trade Cespedes to Marlins for pitcher AJ Ramos.
Spoiler:
Minor league outfielder Ricardo Cespedes.

Re: 2017 MLB Week 17 July 24-30

Good news for the Dodgers : Kershaw has already been cleared to throw from the mound. Doubt he will be out as long as his 4-6 week timetable suggested.

Also the Dodgers rallied to beat the Giants tonight. They extend their MLB record to an even 50 straight victories in a game where they hold any sort of lead. That's pretty amazing. They move to 75-31 with a .699 win percentage. Gunning for 700 tomorrow...

Orioles acquired SP Hellickson from Phillies for OF Kim and minor leaguer. Take your pick of which current starting pitcher leaves the rotation.

Phillies also traded INF Howie Kendrick to the Nationals.

FUquette is in complete denial. The deal also has the O's dealing international signing bonus slots to the Phils. The O's are 6.5 games out of the wild card with 5 teams in between. They need to be selling.

Hellickson makes no sense ... especially the international $s with it. If it were just some "will never make it" prospect who was not coming back or Rule 5, maybe worth a flyer, but even then still pretty iffy given he is a FA after this year.

He's worth it, if you have a chance to win a 7-game series in October, as a 4th starter (might have made some sense for the Nats, for example). But the O's are so far away from that possibility. They have one legit starter (and he should be on a pitch count to save him down the stretch) and bums. It's the classic FUquette move....a fringe starter trade. He's clueless.

Re: 2017 MLB Week 17 July 24-30

He would be worth it if he was signed for 1 or 2 more seasons at some decent contract, then you are getting a decent enough 4th or 5th starter for next year .. probably cheaper than on the FA market.

I would have never guest that the first two games in the Cubs-Brewers series would be pitchers duels.

I was happy to see Bill King get the Frick award. He was a great play by play announcer. Interesting he was probably a even better football and basketball announcer.

The 1970 Oakland Raiders Highlight Film was the first NFL Film to use actual radio play-by-play(Bill King-Raiders).

I wonder if there are any full radio broadcasts of King doing Raider,Warrior or A's games?

Ex-Reds and Oriole Lee May(not to be confused with Lee Maye) has passed away(according to Orioles Hangout).

I remember the Tigers home opening game in 1975 in which he hit a three run upper deck homer in the first inning. I think the Orioles won 10-0.

He also prevented an Oriole sweep of the 1970 World Series by homering late in the fourth game off of Eddie Watt.

I was channel surfing past MLB Network and what a Hall of Fame class today: Mr Steroid Bagwell, Mr Cocaine Raines, Mr Cancel the World Series Selig.

At this point you gotta put in Bonds, Clemens and Rose.

The Cubs-Brewers series was good all around series. Every game could have gone either way, I'm just glad the Cubs eked out the series win.

I have to say, there were a lot of Cubs fans in the stands. Every time something positive happened for the Cubs the crowd noise was pretty loud.

Regarding Selig, all I can think of when I hear his name is his 6 million a year pension.

He made over 100 million dollars in salary as Commish and MLB felt the need to give him a 6 million dollar a year for life pension?

Nice to lose the first game and still gain ground in the series. After his big game, Schwarber has been fanning at an incredible rate. Hope he figures it out.

Too bad. He seemed like a cornerstore of those great Oriole teams.

I read that the Twins had taken a nose dive in the week since the trade so I guess it makes sense considering they were kind of a fringe contender anyway, especially if they got an upgrade in prospects.

It's good to be the king.

Angelos is the real GM on the Orioles. The O's have never really sold off for a complete rebuild under Angelos.
