The 2017 Wimbledon Predictions Pick'em

Since we have one of the more unpredictable Wimbledons that we have had in awhile, most especially on the women's side, your challenge, should you choose to accept it is to list your top three predictions on both the men's and women's side to win the singles title in order.

If your #1 wins, you get 3 points.
If your #2 wins, you get 2 points.
If your #3 wins, you get 1 point.

Ties will be broken, if necessary, by non-winners in your top 3s being the other finalist or, failing that, semi-finalists.

Re: The 2017 Wimbledon Predictions Pick'em

The "big 4" have won the last 14 and it's not gonna change this year. As much as I wanted to include Nadal, he hasn't been past the 4th round since 2011.

Fed
Murray
Djokovic

Wide open on the women's side, so why not one of the KKK.

Konta
Kvitova
Kerber

Re: The 2017 Wimbledon Predictions Pick'em

My basis for picking Kerber #1 was a hunch that she would get her shit together after a slow first half of 2017. She will probably still win today but she should not be having this much trouble with Falconi. Not looking good.

That was close, almost lost Konta but she pulled through 10-8 in the 3rd against Vekic.

Yeah, I didn't pick her because I just don't trust her. I would love to see her actually win, but don't see it happening.

Venus dropped the first set but seems poised to get through anyway.

Kvitova also dropped the first set to Brengle...

She was out of gas after two sets. Not a good sign when the doctor comes out to check your blood pressure and your heart.

And that was with her pulling out of Eastbourne last week as well. She should have been rested so possibly something else is wrong.

It's only Thursday and 2 out of 3 women out for everybody except me (and I almost took Pliskova over Kerber).

Yup, and I don't (or didn't) believe for a minute that Ostapenko or Muguruza are going to win either. In Ostapenko's case, I think she will very likely win another major, it just doesn't figure to be so soon after her first one.

Crap, should have actually looked at the draw before making my picks. Didn't know Dimitrov and Fed would meet this early.

Even though Kerber was my last women's pick alive, this match was a joy to watch. It was nice to see both players come out of their respective slumps and play well at the same time. I hope Mugu can keep playing like this.

...Ostapenko...
As Pam Shriver pointed out in the Ostapenko coverage, the last time a first-time major winner on the women's side even made it as far as the quarters in their next major was Kim Clijsters back in 2005. So to expect Ostapenko, who is just barely 20, to pull it off in the short gap (and substantial surface change) between Paris and Wimbledon seemed like way too much to ask. That she has managed it surprises me greatly. Color me impressed.

I rated her chances last week as virtually nil and I still do. Kudos to her for getting this far. I'd like to see her win, but I just cannot believe in it.

I think Konta will lose to Halep, and Ostapenko will lose to Kuznetsova. Muguruza has the best shot at advancing.

Ostapenko will likely lose to Williams, and I agree. All credit for Kuzy for her continued longevity, but it she runs into the Mugu from today, she will lose. If.

The one that is more difficult to call is Rybarikova vs. Coco. Rybarikova did take out Pliskova, but it is hard to know how well Pliskova was actually playing on that day. I just don't trust Coco yet.

Sorry, I got "who plays who" mixed up. I thought Ostapenko was playing Kuz. Anyway, I think that Halep and Coco will win, the other two are tough to call. But who the heck knows at this point. I certainly woudn't bet on women's tennis.

Yeah, the more I think about it, the more I am unsure about the outcome of the Ostapenko/Venus match. Should be interesting.
