They haven't decided or announced whether the Olympics would allow current NBA players, but with as valuable as these players are and how much money their contracts are for, I kinda doubt owners would allow it. Cuban especially would throw a fit. Though I'd love to see like a reunion of KD/Westbrook/Harden up against CP3/Melo/Lebron.
I think this was made for the urban kids and to get them to the Olympics if I read the ESPN article correctly. I wouldn't want to see NBA guys do the 3 on 3 anyways.

In the Big3? Obviously that match up isn't happening in the Olympics since they're all Americans.

Re: BIG3 Basketball League

It would be great if they could get everybody to agree that this Olympic 3 on 3 event should be amateur athletes only. If not, it will be no different than the 5 on 5 events.

Don't we have multiple teams in beach volleyball and other sports?

Sure, I guess it could be a possibility in that case, but the format hasn't been released.

I don't expect current NBA pros to compete in it. Their contracts probably preclude it anyhow (and I assume there's only one 3-man team per country). This is about getting millenial Americans to watch and appease NBC. Just like when they introduced all the hippie skiing events, beach volleyball, and BMX and others.

I'm just glad softball is back for Tokyo.

Corey Maggette and White Chocolate were among the players leaving games due to injury. Not a good first day.

Kind of weird how FS1 chooses to air these on tape delay tomorrow than live.

I know they're using it to fill a timeslot on Mondays, but what Sports fan likes watching stuff on delay?

Haven't seen what any of these guys look like now, but my money is on Oakley's team.

Yeah that Iverson highlight is like the most in Iverson highlight ever. Hope people aren't tuning in to see him crossover someone.

Re: BIG3 Basketball League

Just glanced at the rules.... kinda weird:

Linky: http://www.big3.com/league-philosophy/rules-the-court

Scoring:
* First team to 60 Points wins, team must win by 2 Points
* Half-time happens after a team scores 30 Points
* Standard 2 and 3 point shots apply
* Exclusive 4 point shots when a player is touching ANY PART of the “4 Point Circle”

Fouls:
* All personal fouls will be counted as team fouls: No foul outs.
* Shooting Fouls:
** On a 2pt attempt. Player gets 1 shot (for 2pts) from the free throw line.
** On a 3pt attempt. Player gets 1 shot (for 3pts) from the top of the 3 point line.
** On a 4pt attempt. Player gets 1 shot (for 4pts) from the top 4pt circle
* On and after the 5th team foul (per half) opponents get 2 shots and ball possession
* A technical foul results in opponent being awarded 2 free-throw shots for 2-points each and possession of the ball.

End Of Possession:
* On a made basket, the ball is thrown to the official up top or the lead official will retrieve the ball and pass to the top. The team who was scored upon becomes the offense and the scoring team becomes the defense
* After a score (only), or missed technical foul shot, the ball must be taken out up top. After the official hands the player the ball, that player can start play dribbling in or passing it in bounds. This must be done within 5 seconds.
* Defensive rebounds (that touch the rim) MUST BE CLEARED
* The ball is cleared when the player with the ball establishes both feet behind the 3 point line. The ball can be cleared by dribbling or passing
* The defensive rebounder that makes a direct pass that clears the ball, must clear the lane and re-establish himself before his team's shot or pass hits the rim. If a shot or pass hits the rim without being cleared it will result in a turnover
* Once a team has cleared the ball and establishes itself on offense, the normal “3 seconds in the key” rule applies
* There is no defensive "3 second" rule
* Steals do not have to be cleared
* Defensive rebounds that don’t touch the rim do not have to be cleared.

The last two rules mean a defensive rebound (or steal) can be taken directly to the hoop as long as the rim wasn't touched.

Re: BIG3 Basketball League

They should have removed corner threes. Those are gimme shots for most unguarded 3-point specialists.

In a three on three half court it's very unlikely someone is going to be unguarded. It's far easier to guard people when their is no full court you have to run back to.

I was thinking the same thing. Why the hell are these games on tape delay? And worst of all, they are going against the first NBA Awards Show. Sunday would have been a perfect day to do this live. Really mind-boggling.

Just watching a few minutes of this and players are wide open all the time, mainly because the defense collapses on a driving player. They just can't make open shots.

Re: BIG3 Basketball League

Jason Williams looked in pretty good shape for his age, he still had a burst. Still couldn't hit a jump shot to save his life, but that was mostly true in his NBA days.

Re: BIG3 Basketball League

Looks like they adjusted the rules.... 25 points to half-time, 50 point to win.

And my guess about tape delay is to try to not hurt ticket sales in the cities where the games are being contested.

Re: BIG3 Basketball League

They were playing in Philly tonight, Iverson's team vs Dr. J's team.
Spoiler:
At the last minute, Iverson was advised by his doctor not to play. http://www.espn.com/nba/story/_/id/2...ig3-homecoming

Re: BIG3 Basketball League

Charles Oakley and Lavar Ball made their Big3 debuts Sunday. I don't know what the ratings for this are but whatever credibility this league may have had is probably gone. If it was composed entirely of former NBA players 5 years or less removed from the game, I think they might have had something. To give Ball any further exposure kind of ruins it for me.
