Re: 2017 MLB Week 5 May 1-7

Maybe I'm an idiot, but I voted "coin flip" because both are head cases. I think I'd rather spread that money across contracts for other above average but less talented players who won't get in fights with teammates in the dugout or get them beaned by the opposition.

Good point. Should've included a "neither" option.

Re: 2017 MLB Week 5 May 1-7

That "interference" call against Pollock yesterday was atrocious. Why that is not reviewable since it is a "judgement" call is yet another reason the replay system is broken.

I think it's pretty clear that replay is broken but MLB refuses to admit there are problems.

Harper is the better talent but his injury history is troubling if you have to spend $400 million on him for the next decade. The Giancarlo Stanton deal is already looking bad.

I picked Harper, but I have a feeling anyone who signs either to an 8+ year deal will be sorry at some point.

The Mets are done if Thor is gone for any significant stretch of time, which appears all but certain with this lat injury.

Of course Sale throws behind Machado in the 1st. Ump bench warns both teams. This nonsense needs to stop. It's like a battle of whoever wants to get the last 'word.' It's all so petty and started that way.

Even though I'm an American league fan, I wouldn't mind seeing the DH abolished, just for these scenarios. If you want to throw at somebody, fine, and then you can go up to bat.

O's turned a 6-4-3 triple play. Still haven't seen any video of it.

Here it is. Most hilarious triple play ever:

It worked. I can view the video. I've had it happen where it doesn't pop up right away for me. Hard to explain.

Strange triple play for sure. I can understand the confusion from the baserunners, but the batter looks foolish for not running to first.

Yeah, the twitter embeds don't show up right after posting for me but are there after refreshing. Hey, at least it actually works now!

Hope the Dodgers don't send Bellinger down, he's been playing great and a big part of the Dodgers recent winning.

One way to stop the nonsense is to immediately eject a pitcher who throws at a batter. Issuing the warning does squat to stop this shit. Ejecting Sale in the first inning, though? That might stop it.

I'm going to be down in LA next week for work. I'm thinking of trying to hit a Dodgers game on wednesday and an Angels game on thursday. I'm just planning on buying cheap seats. Is stubhub the way to go for Dodgers tickets? Angels have $10 seats but dodgers only have $24 seats not counting stubhub.

I don't see why they wouldn't have done that anyway considering there was past history and they should've been looking out for it. I guess they would've needed to issue a warning beforehand, though, under current rules.

Back in 2012, Jose Quintana got ejected without a previous warning for throwing behind Ben Zobrist in a game at Tampa Bay. That's the one where Hawk Harrelson lost his shit on the air (more than usual).

I'm not sure if something changed in the last 5 years, but it seems some umps don't have a problem ejecting a pitcher without warning. Plus Sale is a hothead, so I would think the intent would be pretty obvious there given what's transpired between the teams as of late.

Re: 2017 MLB Week 5 May 1-7

Umpires are not going to eject one of the game's top pitchers early in the game for throwing behind a batter. Most of the Boston fans in the stands specifically paid money to see Sale pitch, not a third-string relief pitcher.

The real problem is the 24-hour coverage that MLB Network devotes to these issues. Players have always gotten hit and been thrown at, but now we have it endlessly replayed.

I have no idea why the network devotes so much face time to these issues. It's literally hurting the game. Take a clue from the NFL network, which basically suppresses any negative topic aimed at the sport.

Re: 2017 MLB Week 5 May 1-7

It's amazing how petty the Sox are being for something that wasn't even egregious to begin with. Then they get their panties in a bunch because Machado takes a few more seconds than usual to circle the bases on a HR.

I heard an intriguing idea for a penalty (rather than ejection) to help curb this nonsense - at least for the AL (where this more of a problem for obvious reasons). Strip the offending team of the DH for the rest of the game and make the pitcher assume that slot.

No surprise, Gaussman hit a batter in the butt...tossed. On a breaking ball. This is so stupid.

Sale has pinpoint control last night, one pitch behind a batter - a warning. Gausman, who sucks this year, throws a breaking ball into the butt - tossed. No warning.

Tonight's ejection was ridiculous. I can't help but think that an ump sometimes realizes he has overreacted, but then there's nothing he can do about it at that point.

Doesn't help matters that the Orioles carry five one inning reliefer's.

Jimenez had to pitch the last three innings(which is a good thing since he will miss his next start)
