Re: 2017 NBA Off-Season Thread

Lakers sign Andrew Bogut to a 1 year deal.

Only a partially guaranteed deal. He can get waived during camp.

Wow, that's a pretty precipitous fall over the past few years.

Re: 2017 NBA Off-Season Thread

He's coming off a broken leg from last season.

I doubt he makes the team. He's just a body to fill a camp roster spot.

Doug Collins has quit ESPN. Returning to the Bulls as Senior Adviser to John Paxson.

Bummer, I like Doug a lot. I read an article about him in SI. He's one of those people with a perfect photographic memory about everything. Remembers every play and every substitution of every game he ever coached.

It's a super-rare condition. Surprisingly, Taxi's Marilu Henner has it as well.

Bogut is a solid player, except he's made of tissue paper.

Re: 2017 NBA Off-Season Thread

The always great Zach Lowe and Brian Windhorst got ahold of the NBA's financials:

http://www.espn.com/nba/story/_/id/2...eason-now-what

Haven't read through it all yet but Windhorst just said on the Jump that the Lakers made more money off their tv deal in one week than the Grizzlies made their entire year.

A team like the Spurs actually would have made money but because they had to give up a chunk for revenue sharing they ended up in the red.

Also the Pistons are screwed.

Re: 2017 NBA Off-Season Thread

Not a great return for NY (and now they're stuck with Kanter's contract), but something obviously had to be done. Wonder what the draft pick is. I'm not sure how Melo fits with OKC, that roster seems really imbalanced with Westbrook, George, and Melo.

I read it was a 2nd round pick, but I'm not 100% sure in this day and age of Social Media posts.

What a crazy Saturday morning. Trump blasting NFL players and Curry. LeBron and CP3 clapping back at Trump. Now Melo shipped to OKC. I barely got my coffee.

Re: 2017 NBA Off-Season Thread

I saw it was a 2nd rounder.

Those are decent players, but terrible haul for the Knicks. Which is not surprising.

Melo is going to be playing the 4 on that team. Billy Donovan needs to be a very good coach for this to work.

Re: 2017 NBA Off-Season Thread

That's what New York got for Melo? This has to be the weirdest offseason for just giving away vets to make "superteams" (I guess going back to last year to with that Cousins trade). I mean which of those three pieces was appealing to the Knicks?

Now I kind of want to see the lowball offers they turned down.

The pick was the 2nd rounder OKC received from the Bulls.

David Aldridge just addressed it and said it's worth the roll of the dice for OKC if it all crashes and burns next season. They didn't give up much so they're not sacrificing multiple picks like the Nets did with the Celtics.

Re: 2017 NBA Off-Season Thread

Definitely worth it for OKC, no reason not for them to give it a whirl this year given the free agencies coming up. That's why I still think the Clippers should have tried to trade for Melo last year.

Re: 2017 NBA Off-Season Thread

Oh it's absolutely worth it for OKC, since they're going to be desperate to keep Westbrook, I just don't see why the Knicks want Kanter, McDermott and a second round pick for the guy who is still their best player.

Re: 2017 NBA Off-Season Thread

I think getting rid of him is more important than the return.

He's going to be 34 next season and he's not going to be around when they are competitive again and next year is the last season for tanking.

Re: 2017 NBA Off-Season Thread

You know how they changed the rookie/softmore game to an open draft and then the global thing? They need to change the actual all star game too. The West swapped Gordon Hayward for Carmelo, Butler, and George, and reigning MVP Russel Westbrook couldn't even crack the starting lineup last year. Lilliard may not make it again for some time. Chris Paul didn't make it mainly because he was injured, while Jokic, Gobert (with no Hayward) and KAT will probably make a strong push again.

edited to add:
shoot, I forgot Millsap moved West too.

I mean you have to choose 12 of the following:
Curry
Harden
Westbrook
CP3
Lilliard
Klay Thompson
Mike Conley
McCollum

Durant
Leonard
Draymond
Paul George
Jimmy Butler
Blake Griffin
Carmelo
Jokic
Millsap
Dirk
Lamarcus Aldridge(?)

Anthony Davis
Demarcus Cousins
Deandre Jordan
KAT
Marc Gasol
Rudy Gobert

Move Lebron over and why even bother?
