Re: 2017 NBA Playoffs

I agree it's never over, Barkley's Suns were able to beat the Lakers in the same situation.

But...

Should've just given up Crowder to get Butler from them, if that rumor was true.

I didn't expect the Bulls to win this series, but I never thought the Celtics were for real as a #1 seed. I figured they get to the Conference Finals and lose to the Cavs in 5 or 6 games.

I thought the seeding was a fluke as well, but I thought they'd win a game at least.

What a rough time for Isaiah.

Re: 2017 NBA Playoffs

well christ, I wanted them to win, but it's a 7 game series and they're only down 2-0.

As for the #1 seed, they won 53 games, that's all you need to know. There is no fluke, it's just that the east was more bunched up than usual. They never were an "elite" team this year. Still, I expected them to win the series. I no longer expect that, but certainly am not throwing in the towel.

Re: 2017 NBA Playoffs

Hey, as a long-time hockey fan who only started watching the Celtics the last few years, I was told by my basketball-knowing friends that "Yeah, it's not like hockey--you don't see too many big playoff upsets in the NBA."

I try to always be pessimistic. Less disappointment that way.

Re: 2017 NBA Playoffs

Well, besides not really being considered by anyone as the true top team in the East, the fact that their best player's 22 year old sister tragically died in a car accident the day before their playoffs began was a huge factor. He had to play two games before he even got a chance to go to the funeral.

Re: 2017 NBA Playoffs

Man how garbage are the rest of the Thunder? I'd rather have Eric Gordon or Lou Williams over Oladipo, who was brought in to score and can't even do that.

The Hawks are still the Hawks.

Edited to add: yeah if the Thunder want to win a game Westbrook has to go old school and play the entire game. It's like a d league team when he sits.

And a gassed Westbrook, unable to trust his teammates, is basically shooting them out of the game in the fourth. OKC is done. Amazing how just having a Durant made guys like Adams seem so valuable. You basically have D with Adams, Grant, Gibson, Roberson, etc, but no o, and O but no D with guys like Kanter, Oladipo (supposedly), McDermott.

Warriors are so good they can sit Durant, have Curry and Klay have an off shooting day, and still dominate and make Javale McGee look like a dominant front court player.

Why do you hate the Rockets? It's not like they have some fierce rivalry with the Lakers. Going to put on a Spurs cap next round?

I don't like James Harden or his game (but can respect it's effectiveness). And yeah, i'd root for the Spurs over the Rockets easily.

Re: 2017 NBA Playoffs

I haven't watched Harden play at all. But it's amazing how often I read people respect his talent, but say they do not like his game. Seems almost unanimous. Outside of Rockets fans that is.

The box score from last night as a great example. 7/17 on FG's but scored 35 points because he was 18/20 from the line. He's crafty and has a slick euro step, but draws so many fouls from flops and this little head jerk that he does anytime there's contact that fools refs in whistles, exaggerated by the whole beard thing. It sounds silly writing that, but i've hated that since he was on the Thunder It's just not entertaining for me to watch him play the way I enjoy tuning in to see Westbrook, Curry, or even Lebron.

Re: 2017 NBA Playoffs

Kawhi Leonard: 69 points on 20 FGs due to 28 FTs (100%!) in two games. Take that for data!

Seriously, though, Harden does get a lot of calls and does his little hook (not a sky hook, hooking the defenders arms then flailing up a "shot") to get the call on 3 pointers which drives me crazy. That's been the knock on him, though, that when the calls stop in the playoffs and teams get more physical, his teams fall. Though the officiating this year has been... interesting.

That Eurostep around Kanter was great, though, and the guy is as talented as anyone. Also led the league in turnovers for the third consecutive year, though at least this year he also led the league in assists.

I'm sure that's a factor, but their inability to get a rebound is a far bigger factor.

I'd say hockey like baseball the mechanations of the game make it more prone to upsets in a series. Their is no equivalent to a hot goalie who can change a series in basketball.

Choke is real. All those Lakers fans rooting for the Cavs.

Kawhi officially graduated to superstar status, at least when it comes to drawing fouls.

Pacers have no heart. PG is a great player, but I don't think he particularly inspires his teammates. They are soft, and have been soft all year.

Re: 2017 NBA Playoffs

For everyone saying that Boston isn't a "real" #1 seed, the Bulls really aren't a "real" 8th seed either. When they play together, they are a good team. They split the season series with the Celtics (only one horrible loss by the Bulls during a rough 5 game losing streak). And the leaders are basically veterans who have been there, done that. Not to mention, the Bulls swept the Cavs this season, 4-0. Bulls were the worst draw to get. Much rather have Pacers (just Paul George) or Bucks (better matchup). Honestly, the Bulls are the best match up out of any team in the East to take down the Cavs.

He also called them out to the media two games in a row which is not a good look for a supposed leader. He spent the whole fourth quarter of last night's game complaining to the refs after every Pacers possession and not taking responsibility that his team was blowing a 26 point lead.
