Re: 2017 NBA Playoffs

I guess Nene was the real MVP of that team. That plus forcing Harden to his right.

Lakers fan avoid the worst case Western conference finals coaching matchup.

What about the people who voted D'Antoni coach of the year (and I think he'll win)?

Pop started a guy who paid to join the d-league team. And he was the second leading scorer in the blowout win.

What kind of NBA "Superstar" intentionally fouls himself out?

I just wish we could've seen more of his best years, especially since he was so often playing against the dreaded Lakers.

Re: 2017 NBA Playoffs

(I'm having a technical issue here for some reason.)

In corroboration with the GIF above, the Rockets played like they didn't even care. Was it a playoff elimination game, or the last game of the season where the majority of seeds are locked up?

My guess is something big happened off the court that the Rockets don't want to talk about; even Pop didn't seem too happy with the series win. Do teams play that lackadaisical when they're down 2 - 3 and the opposing team is missing their two best players?

Not familiar with the postseason success of the winners of COTY. If the Heat had made the playoffs, I would have voted for Spoesltra.

Just feel like if the team has an MVP winner on the team, they should be able to get the team deeper into the playoffs than the first or second round. I know I mentioned him in my previous post, but if I had a vote, I'd vote Leonard first (and then LeBron second).

Re: 2017 NBA Playoffs

Ew, formatting went crazy.

The weird thing is how Harden wasn't even in it from the start. It's not like they were being blown out yet in the first quarter, but to not even take a shot is bizarre. Seems like there had to be something going on off the court.

Re: 2017 NBA Playoffs

But what kind of headcase do you need to be to take something off court and have it affect your play in an elimination game? I mean assuming it's some team personnel thing and not something like an injury or tragedy in the family or something.

Also Pop is never happy about anything, win or lose.

Re: 2017 NBA Playoffs

I agree there seemed to be something affecting Harden. The only thing worse than having a player like Leonard unavailable is to have a guy like Harden out there that is really not in the game, and is affecting everybody else on the court/preventing another player from playing.

Harden looked worn down and a step slow in the playoffs. It's possible running Houston's system all season finally caught up with him physically.

There is a bit of chatter that Harden may have gotten a concussion near the end of game 5. Interesting.

Re: 2017 NBA Playoffs

I saw a concussion theory, but that seems ridiculous to me. Seemed like it would have been something he or the medical staff would have easily looked in to between the two games.

Thanks. Seems like more of a face damaging hit, but I'm no expert.

Outside of what did or did not happen to Harden I do think the NBA should have some level of concussion protocol like the NFL. If they have one, I'm not aware of it.

Re: 2017 NBA Playoffs

There's a video of him partying after the game, courtesy of TMZ, though. Maybe that's right before he went to the hospital to go get checked out or something.

Also snapping your head back whenever someone on the court touches you has to be bad for your neck in the long run.

Nothing against Harden specifically, but that was my first guess. No idea why it's so common. When you are eliminated, or after you win it all, live it up! Till then, WTF?!?

Re: 2017 NBA Playoffs

Harden didn't play very well against the Thunder, right? I didn't watch that series. Perhaps it dawned on the Rockets that the current path to the championship was impossible to go through.

This is the first time I've witnessed in Spurs' playoffs where major rotation players were missing, and the bench steps up in a big way. Murray, Mills, Simmons, and GINOBILI deserve a lot of credit. I'm happy that it was Harden the Spurs were facing, and not Westbrook. Instead of Harden, can you imagine Westbrook playing in his place and playing the same way?

Alas, I don't believe the Spurs can beat the Warriors.

Sorry for my previous post; no idea what happened.

Re: 2017 NBA Playoffs

Harden averaged 33.2 pts, 7 asts, 6.4 rebounds, 1.6 blocks, and 5 flops a game vs. the Thunder. That's not too shabby.

Zach Lowe did an analysis on what Pop and the Spurs did to frustrate Houston:

http://www.espn.com/nba/story/_/id/1...on-rockets-nba

I was joking about it before, but losing Nene actually was a big deal, as seen by D'Antoni's shortened rotation and Harden having to guard bigger players.

Yep, you can't do that in a game as important as this.
