Yeah that was weird. Everyone looked around like "That can't be right".
Thunderous standing ovation for Fleury. It was pretty cool.

Yeah, that wasn't really necessary.

Congrats to McDavid on the Hart.

Who gave Ryan Suter a 2nd place vote for the Hart?

You can buy a blank one for $195 and add a name and number in August. Will get it in September.
So who you going to get on the jersey? Fleury? Neal? Marchessault? Stoner? Carrier? McNabb?
(kidding on the last three) or you going to wait after this weekend or so (after drafting/trades happen) to see what the team will be?

$195 for a Authentic with name/number? so $156 with my Sabres STHer 20% discount. (thats if the Sabres charge us $195.)
I'll probably wait though for a 40% off sale the Sabres have a couple of times during the year - like during Black Friday/Cyber Monday time.
I can afford to wait for a bigger sale - I can wear my Eichel or O'Reilly or Ristolanien jerseys to home games in the meantime.

Re: 2017 NHL Off-Season Thread

It's $195 plain, $265 with name. As I said, you can preorder now and add the name for the additional amount later. I might spend the extra and just get Golden Knights 17. We will see...

One name I won't be adding : Trevor van Riemsdyk. A day after the Knights drafted him (and I assumed they prized him since he was taken as payment for picking up Kruger's contract from the Blackhawks), they have traded him to Carolina for undisclosed asset or assets. We don't know what yet...
[edit] It was for the last pick in the second round of the NHL draft tomorrow, #62. The Knights had way too many defensemen (12) so not a surprise that some will get traded. Don't know enough to know if this was a good value trade or not.

Speaking of Fleury and McNabb, after the Draft/Awards, they invited the Golden Knighs fans down onto the floor for a Round Table discussion and Q & A with the newly selected players and (briefly) GM McPhee and coach Gallant. Here are a couple of pics I took :

McPhee confirmed that the Pens really wanted us to take Fleury for cap relief and threw in a 2020 2nd rounder to help make it happen, but "we would have taken him anyways". No question, Fleury is the star of the team. He is charming and funny. We already love him. When asked about Sidney Crosby, he spoke eloquently about how he thinks Sid is the best player in hockey and how much he admires and respects him. Then he suggested if we see Sid in Vegas before a game that we all buy him lots of alcohol.

Re: 2017 NHL Off-Season Thread

Vegas obviously made some of these picks with the intention of trading them, but only getting a 5th round pick in 2019 for Schlemko seems pretty low.

Oilers trade Eberle to the Islanders for Ryan Strome. Looks like a cap saving move.

Yeah, that's a pittance. Wasn't there anyone on the Sharks' Unprotected list worth more than that?

The Blackhawks traded defenseman Niklas Hjalmarsson to the Coyotes in exchange for defensemen Connor Murphy and Laurent Dauphin on Friday.

Where did you see that? ^^^

Not all that familiar with Murphy .. he seems somewhat similar to hammer .. but younger and a little cheaper ... not sure about the other guy

Re: 2017 NHL Off-Season Thread

NM .. just got the alert

I guess with Hossa down .. they wanted more of a power forward ... some of their better prospects are smaller, more like Panarin

Re: 2017 NHL Off-Season Thread

Full trade

the Chicago Blackhawks today acquired forward Brandon Saad, goaltender Anton Forsberg and a fifth-round draft pick in 2018 from the Columbus Blue Jackets in exchange for forwards Artemi Panarin, Tyler Motte and Chicago's sixth round (170th overall) draft pick in 2017. Saad returns to the Blackhawks where he was a two-time Stanley Cup winner with Chicago, winning in 2013 and 2015.

Re: 2017 NHL Off-Season Thread

Thinking about it .. not so much

Saad replaces Hossa pretty much .. and it should help the top line. Panarin obviously is a good scorer, but Saad can score and is much more of a two way player.

Maybe Debrindcat (or however you spell it) makes the team this year and plays on the second line with Kane and Anisimov, maybe Hartmann or Hinostroza ... the top line is Saad, Panik, Toews

It will also be interesting to see how Panarin does without Kane on the other wing

As an added bonus, someone to compete for the backup goalie, which is a need with Darling gone.

and they are clearly going for a younger and faster blue line ... after the last two seasons, they needed to shake things up ... looks like that is happening and so far, it seems to make sense.

I have a hard time putting into words how much I love the Saad trade.

Torts and Panarin is going to be fun.

Selanne, Kariya, Andreychuk, and Recchi voted into the Hall of Fame.

Cool that Selanne and Kariya get to go in together.

Surprised to see that Vegas traded Methot. Figured he was one of the keepers.

So am I. He was a veteran leader and figured to be on the first blue line and a team captain. He was traded for a 2020 Second Round pick and a goaltender taken in the 7th round last weekend.
What the hell were they thinking?

I'm surprised he was traded and for so little.

Re: 2017 NHL Off-Season Thread

So folks, help me out. I will get to choose an 11-game package based on my time of purchase (which was pretty early, I think).

I suppose that "Hearts" will be the most popular since it has their first home game. I'd like that, but it isn't a deal-breaker (especially if those seats aren't as good as others for me).
If not "Hearts", I'm leaning towards "Diamonds" since it has LA, Anaheim and Chicago. Clubs is the only one without a Preseason game, so that is a thought as well...

Hearts is the only one without a game during Spring Break. That's going to be a big deal for people...

Re: 2017 NHL Off-Season Thread

Spades looks like it has the most Eastern conference stars, so I'd probably go with that.

Hearts is good though, with two games against Colorado you might actually get to see some wins
