Bummer, I really want to check out a game there when it's built.

Re: 2017 NFL Off-Season Thread

Wow, that's kind of a surprise. I wonder if that will at all have an effect on the Raiders' target date. Not the rain - obviously, but I imagine the NFL would rather stagger the opening of new stadiums to only one a year.

I doubt it, the Raiders need that new stadium desperately, I don't see how they can delay it artificially.

Re: 2017 NFL Off-Season Thread

I guess the Rams now need a waiver to host Superbowl because a stadium has to be open 2 years before hosting.

United Airlines purchased the naming rights to the L.A. Coliseum. It's a 15 year deal.

So if someone comes up to you during a game and says you are in their seat, for God's sake, just get up and let them have it.

Someone has to go, they think Ryan Mathews is likely.
If he could ever stay healthy, he'd be a nice pickup for someone. I could see him signing with a team where he didn't need to be the #1 guy. Like San Diego (lol).

Quote:
LAS VEGAS -- The Las Vegas Stadium Authority on Thursday unanimously approved a conditional lease agreement for the Oakland Raiders, helping avoid any possible delays on the team's relocation.

Raiders president Marc Badain had recently warned that appearing at next week's NFL owners meetings without a lease in hand could delay the Raiders' Southern Nevada debut by a year, since the next opportunity to present a lease would not be until October. The Raiders are hoping to break ground on the $1.9 billion, 65,000-seat domed stadium with natural grass this summer.

"It means we go to the league meetings in Chicago with a lease and hopefully get it approved and stay on pace for a 2020 opening," Badain told ESPN.com on Thursday afternoon.

While the approval was not necessarily in doubt, the approval paves the way for NFL owners to vote on ratifying the lease at their spring, which begin Monday.

Wonder how many games have gone past 10 minutes, I don't want to see more tie games.

Re: 2017 NFL Off-Season Thread

If you care about player safety, getting more ties is a small price to play.

The longer a game goes into overtime, the sloppier it gets. I'm fine with this -- I'd actually be fine with no OT until the Playoffs. If you don't want a tie, you don't have to play for one -- go for two, don't kick the FG as time winds down, don't take a knee at the end of regulation.

Re: 2017 NFL Off-Season Thread

The best option I've heard lately is pretty extreme, but it works. Just go back to the way it was before the mid 70's. No overtime. At all!

I lean this way because I think it's ridiculous that they currently worry about each team having the ball. So let's just have each team have more motivation to win during regulation.

Quote:
The NFL has followed through on a promise to relax rules for player celebrations, responding to widespread criticism last season for penalties and fines that targeted harmless and spontaneous moments.

Moving forward, commissioner Roger Goodell announced Tuesday, players will be allowed to use the ball as a prop. They'll be allowed to celebrate on the ground -- in instances such as snow angels -- and will also be able to celebrate in groups once again.
Yay! Bring the fun back!

Tez has died.

While incredibly sad (48! I'm older than that!) I'm glad he was able to enjoy making the HOF before his passing.

Re: 2017 NFL Off-Season Thread

It's been great reading and listening to fellow retired players talk about just how great of a guy Cortez Kennedy always was to everybody. Both during his playing days and after. Very few players are as giddy as he was when he made into the HOF. And I can't think of another player named an NFL MVP, Offense or Defense, from a team that went 2-14 that year.

Have they release the cause of his death yet? I hope it wasn't another suicide...
