I'm surprised so many are picking Houston.

I'm not surprised that nobody is going for NYG-GB, that one is impossible to call. Both teams are sleeper Super Bowl picks.

Re: DVDTalk 2016 NFL Playoff Survivor Pool (14th Annual)

Picked Houston simply because they are the one team that could win this week that I'm sure will not win another game. I see many probably picked Seattle for the same reason. But sadly as a Seattle fan I'm more confident in Houston's chances. Seattle couldn't be more bi-polar. Have no idea what I will be seeing this evening.

There's always one surprise, but I can't see all four going that route. Even last year when all four road teams won it was hardly shocking. Really only Cincinnati losing at home to Pittsburgh was mildly surprising, and even there that was a division game which are always more likely to be close. In fact, as I recall there were quite a few people who actually picked all four road teams.
Trying not to be a homer, but shocked it's 100% Seattle here. Lions are due and Seahawks have looked like crap much of the year and can't score. Should be interesting.

Re: DVDTalk 2016 NFL Playoff Survivor Pool (14th Annual)

This year seems a bit different to me. Normally I see one easy winner who isn't that great and I take that. Obviously the key is to pick a team that will immediately lose. Not this year. I mean I do see teams that should win. But those teams actually look dangerous. I could see Green Bay, Pittsburgh, Seattle, and maybe even New York making deep runs. So I wanted to avoid them. Which means I should pick the Oakland-Houston game, because whoever wins that will get stomped by New England (unless Miami somehow wins). But both those teams suck. If I had any faith in Connor Cook, I'd take Oakland. But I don't. And yet Houston's terrible on offense and special teams and doesn't even have JJ Watt. In the end I simply punted and took Seattle. While I think they're dangerous, I'm guessing Earl Thomas' absence and a deep NFC will likely knock them out somewhere. Plus Detroit sucks

Re: DVDTalk 2016 NFL Playoff Survivor Pool (14th Annual)

^ Sound reasoning.

For me, it was simpler. For the first time in a long time, I see all 4 bye teams as being virtually unbeatable at home except possibly Kansas City if they're hosting Pittsburgh. I figure that a lot of folks in the 2nd round would avoid a tough-to-call KC-PIT game, going for a much surer Dallas, Atlanta or New England.

Which is why I'm hoping to take KC next weekend.

Which is also why I'm taking PIT this weekend - because they're as safe a pick as there is this weekend, and if KC knocks them out next weekend the rest of my picks will be chalk.

KICKOFF!

The pool is now CLOSED to new entries. If you didn't make it, that's cool - it will re-open in 365 days.

Good luck all.

Kenbuzz, I think there's a mistake on mine. My combined score was 39 not 43.

Ill recheck. Its possible that one of the sorts on my spreadsheet didn't include the points column. It's happened before.

Thanks for bringing it to my attention.

From the historical links it looks like by total count no, but by percentage playing yes.

Just because I'm bored and the forum is slow, but couldn't it be argued that a new entrant should be allowed up until kickoff of the last game this weekend? They'd be at a disadvantage on we earlier entires, having fewer choices, right?

If you could please go back 14 years and convince then-kenbuzz that now-kenbuzz should do it that way, then I'll convince future-kenbuzz do to it that way, too.

Correct. 41 players survived the Wild Card round in 2007, the highest # of survivors in pool history. The highest percentage was in 2014 when 88% (37/42) made it through. If PIT wins today, 2015 will break that percentage record.... 32/35 (91%) or 33/35 (94%), depending on the NYG/GBP result.

Wild Card Survivors:
2003: 22/30 (63%)
2004: 14/32 (44%)
2005: 17/33 (52%)
2006: 22/31 (71%)
2007: 41/50 (82%)
2008: 30/49 (61%)
2009: 12/42 (29%)
2010: 19/50 (38%)
2011: 24/50 (48%)
2012: 39/50 (78%)
2013: 9/48 (19%)
2014: 37/42 (88%)
2015: 28/39 (72%)

Those stats are great. The low percentages. I'm sure I was part of those a few times.

I'll add it to my time travel to do list, right after not having that last shot of tequila in July of 1998, and buying more copies of TMNT #1.
