Golden State kept the wrong coach.

While that is certainly overstating things, for some context, last year the Lakers logged their fourth win on December 15th, in their 25th game of the season.

It was a bit odd on the Jump today with them talking about how the young Lakers were doing well... with Byron right there. I give the guy credit, he didn't sound bitter at the organization any more, though if he is he has every right to be.

Also Devin Booker, geez.

He won 17 games last year. His team hated him. He stubbornly refused to play his young talent which would have allowed them to mature faster. He's still getting paid handsomely to play golf. Nobody likes getting fired, but I wouldn't go as far as saying he has every right to be mad at the organization. He did a terrible job as head coach for a franchise that still appreciates his contribution to the organization as a player, but expected better results from their head coach.
Now you can certainly argue that he was put in an impossible position to succeed, but the team was well within their rights to fire him as long as they honor their contract. It's only seven games in, but I think it's pretty clear that the organization made the right choice for this team at this time.

Re: 2016-17 NBA Regular Season Thread

Right, it was more the situation that they put him in and the lip service they gave him that he would have time with a young Kobeless team. I said above that the Walton move has made the biggest difference, so I agree with that.

It will never be explicitly said but those 17 wins greatly helped them keep their pick. I'm not saying he was told to tank, especially with Kobe around, but yeah, showcase Kobe's last year and don't focus on winning all that much. What's inexplicable is that he didn't just play the young talent.

I don't see the relevance : A lot of people actually like the Cubs.

2 of their 3 best players have been out for multiple games and their around .500. Sounds about what they should be.

Don't know how much truth to this report is, but Tristan Thompson of the Cavs was apparently dating Khloe Kardashian and dumped her when his teammates made fun of him.

Re: 2016-17 NBA Regular Season Thread

I didn't see the game because I was out of town, but I saw the highlights of the Lakers comeback win against the Kings last night.

They really looked like they were having fun. Luke's system is really bringing out the best of this young core.

Re: 2016-17 NBA Regular Season Thread

The Baby Lakers continue to overachieve. They just won their sixth game in their 10th game, a mere 23 games sooner than they notched their sixth W last season (on December 30th, in Boston). This team might not make the playoffs but they're sure fun to watch and will hopefully be giving the Sixers only a late lottery pick next June.

Re: 2016-17 NBA Regular Season Thread

I am watching the OKC vs Magic game and number 4 of the Magic looks like he is wearing a hat made out of his hair. I have never seen anything like it. The front of it sticks out just like the bill of a hat.

I went to the OKC vs Clippers game on Friday. The Clippers have a tough roster.

Clippers with a 10-1 start is very surprising.

The Spurs will retire Duncan's number on December 18th. They play against the Pelicans that night.

Re: 2016-17 NBA Regular Season Thread

Thibodeau is a great game coach, but he learned nothing from his time in Chicago. Up 30 most of the second half and he still plays Wiggins and Towns for almost 40 minutes.

That was the part of the problem with his Bulls team, they were worn down by the time the playoffs started.

Heck they were worn down for the rest of their lives.
