Panthers make what I believe is the first head coaching move, firing Gerard Gallant.

Re: NHL Regular Season Thread - 2016/17 Edition

Only 8,124 people attended the Hurricanes game last night. Sure, it was a holiday weekend and likely a lot of people were out of town, but that's still pretty pathetic.

They're averaging a league-worst 10,900 per game so far.

I always thought that they should go the regional team route( ABA's Carolina Cougars/Virginia Squires). Since Raleigh isn't that big of a city play 25 home games there-10 games in Charlotte and 5 games in Greensboro.

Is he any good? The Golden Knights are actively looking for a head coach and there's something so thematically appropriate about their first coach being named "Gerald Gallant of the Golden Knights".

They should move to Quebec City. The weak Canadian Dollar was given as the reason that the NHL didn't expand by two, but I think the real reason was that they were hoping that the Hurricanes moved there instead. One less foundering team to worry about and league profits split 31 ways instead of 32.

I couldn't find any. Several AHL teams average 8,000+

The London Knights of the OHL average almost 9,000.

Re: NHL Regular Season Thread - 2016/17 Edition

Just a few weeks out from the reveal of their name and logo, the Vegas Golden Knights have hit a setback, as their trademark request was denied by the United States Patent and Trademark Office.

A USPTO document made its way across the Internet on Wednesday evening detailing the rejection of Black Knight Sports and Entertainment’s (the company owned by Vegas team owner Bill Foley) attempted trademark. The reason for the denied request? The Vegas mark shares too many similarities with The College of Saint Rose Golden Knights.

I don't know how similar they are to the St Rose Golden Knights :

Honestly, I'm confused why this tiny school is a problem when the nation's largest university - UCF uses essentially the same name and logo as well

Re: NHL Regular Season Thread - 2016/17 Edition

I thought the reason it took so long to announce the name was because of securing the rights, so I'm surprised this has become an issue.

If they are forced to change the name, I have a polo shirt and a T shirt with the Vegas Golden Knights logos on them that will be come collectibles.

Miami Hurricanes - Carolina Hurricanes? Bruins, too.

I would guess they just got a grumpy trademark office worker.

Re: NHL Regular Season Thread - 2016/17 Edition

I agree it's stupid for the USPTO to deny this given the wealth of precedents out there. That said, it was also pretty stupid of the franchise to announce the name and sell merchandise without having the mark cleared. Idiocy all around.

Re: NHL Regular Season Thread - 2016/17 Edition

The road blues continue.

Allen starts his fifth game in eight days.

bastards have a three-goal lead, and proceed to give up five straight to the opposition.

and they finally bring in the backup.

blah.
