Some of these goals on Saturday would have been nice.

What a shit draw, especially for me. Barca, City, Celtic, and Gladbach. Damn.

At least madrid didn't get as big of a cakewalk as normal.

Decent? It would be near impossible to pick an easier group. Still, hope they somehow manage to screw it up and miss out.

Not exactly thrilled with Barca's group either. Granted they have owned MC in the past but I don't get the feeling they will go down in flames this year like usual. Celtic as we all know gave Barca all they could handle a few years ago and BM is always a tough German side.

Given my support for Gladbach, I was really hoping for an easier group. I can hope that Barca won't need the points in their last match against the Foals. Beat Celtic twice and pinch three off City, and they have a shot at second. Wishful thinking sure, but not impossible. They have been playing very well so far, albeit v. the Young Boys.

There will at least be some interesting stories, with Pep and Bravo going against Barca, and ter Stegen facing his former club in Gladbach. Celtic are going to be luck to get two points out of this one.

Re: The all-inclusive 2016-17 football/futbal/fußball/voetbal/calcio/soccer thread

An aside apropos of absolutely nothing, I was wearing one of my Gladbach t-shirts a couple of weeks ago, and somebody finally recognised what it was. I think it has been over three years, and nobody in America has seemed to know what it was.

Turned out that the young man marginally followed them due to Fabian Johnson. I didn't tell him he is one my least liked on the side. He was also disappointed when I told him that I didn't get the shirt in the US.

By the way, I have had multiple people recognise and comment on my Newell's shirt.

Usually not! But out of town - likely out late being drunk - doesn't lead to wanting to wake at 430!

That's brutal for you with the early start and being on the west coast.

Tough enough for me out east here, when I'm hungover Saturday morning

Inside the first 13 minutes and Bayern produce two great shots, the first by your favourite ex-Liverpooler Xabi the butcher, (It was a really nice strike from distance), and Lewandowski for a 2-0 lead over a dreadful Werder Bremen. If not for Bremen's goalie, it would be 4 or 5 nil.

Xabi always loved that shot from distance.

Missed the Spurs goal. How that happen? And did they ever show if you guys were actually offsides on the disallowed goal? It was a very nice counter.

Also, it the bits I've seen, Matip has looked good.

Yeah. He sure hit that one yesterday very well. However, Bremen played as poorly, and uninspired and lethargic, as a side can play.

At least today at noon there is a match worth watching. Gladbach v. Leverkusen. Along with Schalke, those three should battle all season for the CL spots behind the Bayern and Dortmund. Gladbach looked fantastic against Young Boys in their CL qualifier earlier in the week. I know it is early and it wasn't the greatest competition, but they seem to have found a very nice balance, one that often escaped them last season. Raffael has been a joy to watch so far.

Ball into the box and a fortunate fall to Rose, who no one covered and he scored.

The offside was so tight. I can't disagree with the call, based on the replay.

Matip did play well in his debut.

Lewa with the hat trick yesterday, so let's see how Aubameyang can respond. Already one in the 17th.

Yeah, I thought it was a cheap penalty. Schürrle went down rather easily.

Heartbreak for Hull. Hung in there for 90 plus.

Rashford seals it for United.

Nice win!

Maybe after 10-15 years, Mourinho will start growing on me.
